Sapporo Fair Delights at Kuishin Bo

Being a lover of good Japanese food, I was thrilled to be invited by Kuishin Bo to try out their latest Sapporo Fair Delights buffet menu.

Furthermore, it is Sapporo – the capital of Hokkaido, Japan – also famous for its bountiful and fresh seafood.

As part of the buffet spread, diners can enjoy Sapporo’s regional delicacies along with the famous Sapporo beer at both Kuishin Bo restaurants in Great World City and Jurong Point.

Seasonal specialties include: Golden King Crab Leg**; Kani Salad (horsehair crab, king crab and snow crab in special dressing); Ika Meshi** (Hokkaido squid stuffed with glutinous rice); Nama Hotate Nigiri (fresh scallop sushi from Hokkaido); UniIka Nigiri (Hokkaido squid sushi with sea urchin paste) and Shima Hokke** (grilledsun-dried Atka mackerel from Hokkaido).

**Note that some items are only available for dinner buffet.

Non-seafood specials include Tokachi Nikujaga (Tokachi beef from Hokkaido stewed with potato and assorted vegetables in sweetened soy sauce) and Sapporo’s Chicken Soup Curry, a lightly spiced broth with chicken drumsticks, pumpkin and assorted vegetables. Mild, yet sophisticated on the palate, it stands out in contrast to the regular, thicker Japanese curry that is more commonly seen.

The seafood section is definitely one of the hot favourites, but don’t forget to also try out some of these lovely homely dishes, using ingredients imported from Hokkaido. Hokkaido’s sweet corn and pumpkin!!

Some of the other items I really enjoyed (note that I was there for lunch so was unable to try the items available for dinner spread)

Hokkaido Cha-han (fried rice)

Usually I avoid carbs, but this one is worth the space in your tummy. It is really delicious and flavourful.

At the dessert bar, dont forget to try the cheese cake. Handmade by the chefs of Kuishin Bo, the cheesecake is so light and fluffy, it almost melts in your mouth. The other desserts feature is the classic milk pudding made with pure Hokkaido milk (I was so full I could not try this, let me know how is the taste when you go!)

And definitely not to be missed, is the Yubari Melon Soft Cream (rock melon ice cream). In addition to the unique flavour, the soft serve has the right amount of punch from the rock melon flavour but yet it is not overly sweet.

Yearning for some freshly cooked food? There are stations where you can order items including assorted nabe (mini Japanese hotpot soup), ramen and yaki-mono (grilled food items).

Egg lovers rejoice! There are the famous Japanese onsen eggs as well as chawamushi (steamed eggs served in cups).

And definitely lots of other Japanese food including the popular nigiri sushi, maki rolls and temaki (hand rolls).
