Super super happy that my favourite online store Rakuten Japan has brought their Japan Gourmet Festival here in Singapore, held at WAttention Plaza, Jurong Point.
If you do not already know, Rakuten is Japan’s number one online shopping mall! In fact, I buy many of my dried food items, tools, books, bakeware and bento materials from there. But of course, I am not able to buy fresh produce or desserts as those needs to be refrigerated.
The event presents over 100 specialty products from Rakuten Ichiba at this first ever Rakuten Japan Gourmet Festival in Singapore.
Attended their launch last Wednesday and was quite impressed by the selection of premium seafood, exquistic confectioneries, delicious desserts and many other delights from Hokkaido, Tokyo, Kyoto and Shizuoka.
Happening now till 4 December at the newly opened Japanese themed WAttention plaza, head down quickly to grab these limited time items from Japan.
What not to miss and what to expect? Here are some highlights :) and some of my personal favourites
1. Melon Smoothie with Soft Serve (top pic) $8.00
Made from Hokkaido-farmed red flesh melon/cantaloupe. A luxuriously rich smoothie, topped with Hokkaido’s dairy soft serve. Just how popular is this? At least 1 cup sold every 3 minutes!
At the same store by Tomita Melon House, you can also find really interesting melon products including Melon Castella, Melon Rusk and even Melon Jam. Does the name Tomita Melon House sound familiar? Yes, it is the famous melon store located at Furano, Hokkaido. It is also situated near where the lavendar and flower fields of Tomita Farm. :) I actually ate their fresh melon slice when I visited Hokkaido~ happy memories.
2. Vanilla Beans – Chocolate Sandwich (4pcs, $20)
This is really a chocolate lover must-buy. A double chocolate cookie filled with generous rich and fragrant chocolate ganache. The cookie is crispy with the right about of thickness, paired with the creamy melt in mouth ganache filling – super yummy.
Established since 2000, Vanilla Beans has grown a strong fan base and is a proud recipient of Rakuten Ichiba Japan’s Shop of the Year 2013 (sweets category).
3. Crab bento from Sapporo Kanihan, $30
Of course, my interest always lie with bento! Here we have an assortment of seafood bento sold by Sapporo Kanihan, from the famous Nijo market in Sapporo. The products and seafood made in the bento are all sourced from Hokkaido, Japan! Simple and extravagnt yummy bento!
Their crab bento is one of the most popular item at the event.
5. Tuna and Seafood Chirashi $16
Another great option for seafood lovers. Served in a cup, this is also known as Japanese Seafood Parfait (how cute!). The chirashi is made with premium Japanese rice, topped with ikura (salmon roe), salmon and tuna belly. Each one of them are hand-made by Tsukiji Ryotei Takewaka’s own chefs.
6. Rokkatei – Marusei Butter Sand $15 (box of 5) $29 (box of 10)
Made with white chocolate and 100% pure Hokkaido-made butter, this yummy biscuit from Hokkaido’s renowned confectionery Rokkatei is also one of the top selling products at the fair. Remember to grab some before you leave.
Some of you might ask me, what does ‘sand’ means? It is actually like a short-form of sandwich. In this case, a sandwich cookie. Isn’t Japanese language the cutest!
