PAUL restaurant presents 26 new menu items!

I have to admit I was rather excited when invited by PAUL, the famed French boulangerie to try their updated menu with new French classics and traditional rustic offerings.

This heritage French brand, which marks its 125th anniversary this year is popular around the world for its authentic French fare and handmade traditional French breads. PAUL was established since 1889 in the city of Croix, near Lille in Northern France.

In their new menu, PAUL refreshed its breakfast and main dine-in menu with 26 new dishes, desserts and beverages!

Definitely planning to bring some of my girlfriends to dine there again.

From its first store at Takashimaya shopping centre and the newest outlet at Changi Airport Terminal 3, PAUL restaurant has a total of 7 locations in Singapore. We were hosted at their Tanglin mall outlet, on a lovely and not too noisy Wednesday night.

A lovely modern setting with black and white colours and pastries for dine-in and take aways.

That smooth creamy French butter and the crackling crusty French bread was a perfect start to the meal. Gosh, I am still craving for this simple bread butter combo!

Although I am usually not a salad fan, the Salade da la mer ($20.90) was surprising satisfying with the generious serving of seafood including sauteed prawns, mussels and octopus. A lovely mix of texture with the greens, we have grapefuit, avocado and slices of red radish. Next was my personal favourite main dish of the tasting event, the Tartine d’avocat ($19.90)!!

The open faced sandwich dish was so good I wanted to have the entire plate to myself. I definitely took more than 1 serving of this wonderful dish of perfectly baked country bread served with generous spread of prawn and creamy egg mayonnaise topped with fresh avocado and cherry tomatoes. I will definitely order this again. This is also a great menu item for sharing in group setting.

Not a fan of prawns?

Try out their other new item, the Tartine boeuf ($19.90), of grilled sirloin steak on a bed of herb cream cheese, caramelised onions topped with a dash of blasamic glazing. Some of the new main course items also included the Confit de canard ($28.90). Slow roast herb marinated duck leg, served with roasted vegetables and seasonal cranberry sauce. And the Longe de thon ($29.90), which consists of grilled seasoned tuna loin served with roasted vegetables and seasoned cranberry sauce.

If you like puff pastry in your main dish, try out their new Saumon en croute ($29.90) of herb marinated salmon with sauteed spinach baked in puff pastry and served with mixed salad, asparagus sauce and hollandise sauce.

Ah! dessert time!!

For me, a meal is not completed without desserts, especially at a French restaurant :P We had the Eclair Paris-Brest ($7.50), a traditional choux pastry with rich hazelnut cream and wonderful crunch of caramalised hazelnuts. Yum!

Prefer a lighter dessert? Definitely recomend their Gaufre avec Glace ($13.90), a really delicious waffle that was so light and crispy. The colour might not look convincing, but this is one of the best waffles I have eaten. The airy texture of the waffles made this a dessert delightfully light on the tummy.

Served with fresh berries, vanilla soft ice-cream and drizzle of homemade chocolate sauce. I did however wished the vanilla ice cream fared better.
