Super happy to receive this baby – Mame Magewappa Bento Box (bean-shape bent wood bento box). Thanks to Zairyo, a store based here in Singapore that carries restaurant-quality Japanese fresh produce and authentic tableware/kitchenware.
I have been looking for such bean shape wooden bento box for some time! yay!
Light wood colour, this 2 tier bent-wood bento box is great for both ladies and men. Depending on your meal size, you can choose to use one tier or both tiers.
It is also reasonably priced at $41.50 for the entire bento box set that comes with chopsticks and spoon too.
Was excited to use my new bento box so I decided to pack something cute and Japanese – the first thing I thought of was Totoro!
I also made Susuwatari character, which is translated as ‘soot spirits’ or ‘dust bunnies’ from the movie. This was partly inspired by the lovely Susuwatari brooch that I bought in Kyoto last year. See left top corner of the photo – cute right?! :)
Both Totoro and the Soot Spirit were made mainly using rice. The grey colour of Totoro was achieved by mixing in black sesame. The features were made from seaweed.
I wrapped the rice ball with seaweed to create the Soot Spirit and its eyes were made from cheese and seaweed.
The side dishes were butter garlic asari clams, datemaki, sauteed vegetables, edamame beans and lettuce.
A yummy Totoro bento for lunch today~~ can’t wait to tuck into my meal!
