This is probably going to be my last Chinese New Year Bento for this year since I will be rather busy with the new year celebrations, gatherings and visitings.
Do you know the Chinese New Year paper cuttings? Today’s bento is inspired by those awesome CNY paper cutting designs.
I sketched my own paper cutting outline on baking paper, depicting a goat, lantern and of course the year ‘2015’ and the kanji character of goat which is ‘羊’.
I then lay the baking paper on thin red egg sheet and cut using my Acto knife.
After I have gotten all the outlines done using the baking paper as guide, I then worked on the tinier and finer details.
They are very intricately design paper craft that can also be bought and displayed in the house. Such CNY paper cuttings are usually in red as red is a colour of good luck and prosperity.
Here are some examples of CNY paper cuttings (the three images below are not mine, please see source info and credit)

Several years back I had saw this Chinese New Year bento by Bentolicious, which depicted a bunny paper cutting design. It was very inspiring and I remembered it for a long time.
Since then I have been wanted to make such bento for CNY!
So I hope you will like my version of this Chinese New Year Bento!
The side dishes for this Chinese New Year bento included steamed chicken, sauteed vegetables with bacon, lettuce, carrot, mandarin oranges and edamame beans.
Bento was packed in my Maru Magewappa bento box from Bento&co.
