Fortune God CNY Bento

Fortune God CNY Bento!

After making a number of Valentine’s Day bento, it is time to go back to CNY celebrations. So here is my Fortune God CNY Bento creation~

This Fortune God CNY bento creation is also pretty special as it is part of the Creative SG Home Cooks Movement. What is this? you might ask? Keep on reading.

#creativesghomecooks is a monthly cooking challenge meant for everyone here, and the purpose of this challenge is to encourage residents like you and me to cook more at home.

Initiated by a group of foodies from the sg food community and led by Ian from The Silver Chef, we banded together to start this #creativesghomecooks initiative.

There will be a new challenge every month and a specific theme. For the month of February, seeing that it is both Chinese New year and Valentine’s Day, the theme will be red.

Since the theme is red, I decided to buy a red bell pepper last night and the idea of the Fortune God character came to mind.

The headgear and the sleeve of Fortune God is made from the red pepper, so is the word ‘ 財’ which of course means money, prosperity and wealth. Something that we all love for CNY blessings~~

Here is a simple guide to make the details using the red bell pepper. The yellow parts are actually thin egg sheet.

To keep to the red theme, the side dishes for this CNY bento included buffalo drumlets, sauteed tiger prawns with broccoli and chili padi.

The cute prosperity bag is actually mochi kinchaku (fried tofu pocket filled with mochi).

For this month’s #creativesghomecooks, I am nominating @danielfooddairy @maysatch @vickiima @huijourney, @sgfoodonfoot and @roxypoledancer – Happy cooking my friends :)

Here are the T&Cs~ no stress okie!

1. If you decide to take up the challenge, please come up with a home cooked dish that adheres to the theme. For example, your dish this month will need to feature the colour red. That side, it does not have to be entirely red, just some parts is okay.

2. It can be either savoury or sweet dish, no need for complicated dish. And it does not need to be bento or food art too! Just homely dish will be enough ;)

3. Take a photo of the completed dish and post it on your social media (IG preferred but blog and FB are okay) and hashtag #creativesghomecooks.

4. Nominate at least one other person to take up the challenge, preferably via Instagram using the @ user tag. You can nominate as many as you like. If you have a blog, you can also nominate or tag the person there. As blog tagging has no notification, you might want to prompt the person your nominated on this challenge.

5. There is no penalty for not taking up the challenge as this is meant to be a fun challenge, but do consider trying! It will be fun :)

6. If you do miss the deadline for the monthly challene, you can still post the previous month creation. Just remember to hashtag.

7. You can do more than one dish per challenge.

8. Try not to use outside food, this initiative is to encourage us to cook at home.
