Mr Berlin

Mr Berlin can now satisfy your cravings for authentic German currywurst!

What are German’s tangy, sweet and spicy beloved currywurst?

A popular street snack ubiquitous in cities all over Germany. German sausages served with ketchup and curry powder! Just how popular is this snack in Germany? Today, roughly 800 million portions of currywurst are sold in Germany each year, at both sidewalk stands and in restaurants. (WOW!)

I read on Mr Berlin’s website a brief historial explanation of the currywurst.

For Germany in 1949, spices and ingredients were still hard to come by. A resourceful housewife in Berlin, Herta Heuwer, traded some spirits with British soldiers for English curry, and after some experimentation in her kitchen with ketchup, curry powder and German sausage , it gave birth to the currywurst.

Mrs Heuwer then sold this “poor man’s steak” from a street stand in Berlin for 60 pfennig a portion (about $0.50 today) and the rest was history.

The German sausages both the braturst and cheese sausages served at Mr Berlin were really good. In fact, these quality sausages are good even on their own, without the ketchup and curry powder toppings.

Pork sausage stuffed with cheese that oozes out is the Cheese sausage that cheese lovers would definitely enjoy.

I was also blown away by their freshly baked bread roll and farmer’s bread, both of which were baked to perfection and served toasted (yum!). The breads were crisp the outside and chewy soft inside – I can have seconds!

Conveniently located at Shenton way, this would be a perfect after-work place to enjoy some drinks and German street food!
