Presenting to you Stitch Bento!
Frankly, I can’t believe that in my four years of bento making, this is my first Stitch Bento!
Reason being that I rarely make blue coloured characters as it is not as easy to use natural ingredients to create the blue colours. One best way to create blue colours is using blue pea flowers extract. I used a combination of blue pea flower extract and some gel food coloring, as I couldnt get enough blue colour from the blue pea flowers I got from a friend.
I was motivated to make Stitch Bento this week (though it required some planning) was partly because of my interactions from 987fm DJ Gerald Koh when I went on this show -The Bro Code about 1 week ago on 17 April.
I was very grateful to be invited by 987fm to appear on ‘Hot Chick of the Week’ segment of 987fm where DJs Joakim Gomez and Gerald Koh interviewed me on my bento journey and I also guided them to make a simple Baymax Bento! We had so much fun!
During the show, Gerald mentioned that he was a Stitch fan, so I promised him (live on air) that I would make a Stitch Bento soon.
Stitch character was made mainly from rice and seaweed:
- Blue rice – rice with blue pea flower extract and some gel food colouring. The colors were added before I cooked the rice
- Light blue rice – rice mixed with some blue deco furikake
- Head – blue rice and light blue rice
- Eyes and Nose – light blue rice (from above) and seaweed
- Ears – blue rice and picnic ham
- Hands – blue Rice
If you have watched Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, you would know that the story was based in Hawaii. So in today’s bento I made some effort to incorporate some Hawaiian elements including luncheon meat (couldn’t find Spam brand in the supermarket yest) and pineapples for the side dishes. I also packed in mizuna vegetables, cherry tomatoes, sweet peas and some lettuce.
While shopping for luncheon meat yesterday, I saw this Japanese recipe luncheon meat by Tulip. Haha. I immediately bought it!
Stitch Bento was packed in my white Noda Horo enamelware bento box. This bento box is now available at Tokyu Hands here in Singapore at around $20.
Have a great Monday~

I find it awkward to work with blue too, I think there is something inherent that tells us not to eat blue things! But the shade you have created looks lovely ^^
