Kawaii Totoro Bento

Totoro Bento (5)A kawaii Totoro bento for Friday!

Its finally Friday~ work has been crazy this week and I am so glad its the weekend. Even though I still have to work tomorrow -__- haha.

Totoro has always been a classic character, and something that I always come back to when making charafood and kyaraben.

Since its Friday, I decided to make myself a happy and cute lunchbox. So Totoro it is!

I was too lazy to colour the rice for the Chu-Totoro (medium size totoro) so I decided to simply mix it with a little ground black sesame to create a light grey hue.

The O totoro (large Totoro) was then wrapped with seaweed instead. So this way, I will have different tones for the Totoro characters.

The ingredients included the following:

O Totoro (large Totoro)

  • Japanese rice (body)
  • sushi seaweed (to wrap the body, facial details, tummy marks)
  • cha soba noodles (whiskers)
  • egg white (eyes, base of nose)
  • ham (mouth)

Chu Totoro (medium Totoro)

  • Japanese rice + ground black sesame (body, tail)
  • Japanese rice (tummy)
  • seaweed (facial details, tummy marks, whiskers)
  • egg white (eyes)

Chibi Totoro (mini Totoro)

  • Japanese rice (body)
  • egg white (eyes)
  • seaweed (eyes)
  • vegetable sprout

I also finally used for the first time (i think) my custom made Totoro branding iron that I customed made in Tokyo. So cute right?

The side dishes included sauteed vegetables with pork belly, broccoli, lettuce, cherry tomato and tamgoyaki.

Have a wonderful weekend ahead!

So cute! And I love that custom made Totoro branding iron! Out of curiousity, is there a particular shop you will frequent to custom make these? Is it along the Kappabashi stretch in Tokyo?
