SG50 Bento Foodart

Sg50 Bento Foodart (1)SG50 Bento foodart!

Its makan time! Not just any food but some of our popular local favourites made into edible minature food in this SG50 Bento foodart creation.

Feeling  proud of the final result ;D haha

Can you tell what are the dishes?

Featuring Laksa, Chilli Crab, Satay, Peanut Ice Kachang, coffee and Milo Dinosaur.

Food is such an integral part of Singaporeans’ everyday life, so I thought how awesome to use food to depict food! :D And definitely apt for SG50 celebration.

This making of this creation surprising took me shorter than I expected it. I think it is probably because plating the creation flat on plate is so much easier than if I had attempted to pack this idea into a bento box.

So happy that the minature food items all pretty resemble the real thing.

Actually the biggest ‘headache’ I had was to create the bowls/plates.

I finally had an idea to carve some bowls and serving dishes from apples! Just remember to soak or spray the apple in some lemon juice before patting them dry to prevent discolouration of the apples.

First up, lets take a closer look at laksa. Made from pumpkin konnyaku noodles, chilli oil, sakura ebi, chilli paste with some milk, egg, apple slices for fishcake, aosa seaweed for laksa leaves, lettuce for greens. And carrot for the pair of chopsticks.

Another of my favourite and so simple was milo dinosaur, I used one of the mugs from my rement collection and simple topped it with  milo powder. Doesnt it just look like Milo Dinosaur?

Satay was really easy. Made them from bit of chicken meat and skewered them on pasta sticks. Then arrange the satay on a rectangle piece of lettuce, and over a slice of apple plate.

Singaporeans love our spicy food. And one popular and well known dish is Chilli Crab! So I definitely had to make this in this SG50 bento foodart.

The crab is made from red sausage and the sauce is garlic chilli sauce.

Lastly, its dessert time. None other than — peanut ice-kachang. Perfect for Singapore’s sunny weather too. Made the ‘ice’ from rice mixed with some green furikake and pink sushi mix. Then topped with some crushed kinako furikake for the ‘peanuts’.

So are you feeling full already looking at these minature local dishes?

Side dishes included some sweet spicy prawns, lettuce and some sauce.

To make this even more uniquely Singapore, I chose to have all four races for the characters. I think this is what is special about us here, a myriad of cultures all living in harmony as one nation.

Here is wishing Singapore an early Happy Birthday! To more happiness, peace, harmony and prosperity for the people.

And hope you like this SG50 bento foodart idea.
