I believe this is my first Sumikkogurashi foodart creation. Made the Sumikko Gurashi into sushi and cute deco curry.
Really happy with how cute the little ebi fry sushi character turned out.
Thanks to the kawaii mini sushi plates that I bought from Character+Design store the other day. Inspired to finally make Sumikko Gurashi sushi.
Do you know this cute character series – Sumikkogurashi from San-X?
I read online that these characters were to depict how shy Japanese people love corners. For instance like how one would head to the corner seats in restaurants and subway trains. Which is why these characters are often depicted sitting in a corner.
I love many of the characters including Tonkatsu, Furoshiki and most of all, Ebi Fry!
Funny how most of them are food, and most specifically leftover food.
Tonkatsu (Pork Cutlet) is said to contain just 1% meat and 99% fat? hahah. Its supposed to be leftover piece of pork cutlet.
Furoshiki is Japanese wrapping cloth and often depicted in the corner.
Ebi Fry, best friend of Tonkatsu is a piece of leftover end of deep fry shrimp.
Today I made these three Sumikkogurashi characters, Tonkatsu, Furoshiki and Ebi Fry.
Would you like sushi or some deco curry? haha
My favourite has to be these cute Ebi Fry Sushi riceballs that I made.
Plus they matched the mini Sumikkogurashi sushi plates that I bought.
Do you also see the home size sushi conveyer belt?
It is actually something that I bought few years back. It runs on batteries and the sushi conveyer belts actually moves!! hahah. Very fun if you are planning a sushi party at home.
Here is one more shot of my the Ebi Fry Sushi~~
I made Ebi Fry actually from Japanese rice, mixed with some egg, and dusted with some yellow deco furikake. The red shrimp tail end is a bento pick. The eyes and mouth is sushi seaweed.
For Tonkatsu, its simply Japanese rice mixed with some teriyaki sauce. The details added included pink kamabok fishcake (for nose) and seaweed (for eyes).
Furoshiki was made with japanese rice mixed with pink sushi vinegar mix. The details added included white kamaboko fish cake (for the dots) and seaweed (eyes and mouth).
I hope you like this creation as much I did making them. Its not that hard and also really fun.
As for the home sushi conveyer belt, I am trying to find the link to the product that I bought. Will update if I can locate it.
Have a great day or go find a corner to relax like these characters from Sumikkogurashi.
