Aide de Camp is a local brand, designs and retails smart and stylish handbags for the busy modern woman.

Their Nadine collection, is not only practical for everyday use, it is definitely great for travellers as a hand carry bag.

With a customer centric design, their collection keeps in mine bag owners with cameras or laptops devices. In line with this, the bags are made with lightweight exteriors and come with extreme comfort straps and a removable padding system.
Super great for blogger like me, or any stylish lady on the go.
The Nadine is a roomy sleek and practical option for carrying their cameras to events/ tastings that I attend.
And its thoughtfully-designed interiors really help me stay organized with compartments for all my big and small items.
Just check out how much the bag can hold! and still looks super neat and organised right?
I was apprehensive of the maintenance of the cream colour, but the canvas materials that the bag is crafted in is very durable and water-resistant. Phew!!!
On weekends or day offs, I prefer to travel light, so I simply remove the padding box and laptop padding and use it as a regular tote bag.

Casual and chic, this Nadine is a keeper. :)

Rey Jedi Bento (2)Rey Jedi Bento!

While the movie is still fresh in my mind, I must make another new Star Wars Bento this year.

Enjoyed the movie very much, even though I don’t exactly classify myself as a geek or otaku. haha. Nevertheless, movies such as Star Wars, Star Trek, X Men, Lord of the Rings etc are very much my sort of thing.

(warning, some spoilers ahead)

If you have watched the Movie, you would know that in the latest installment, we now have a new young female Jedi by the name of Rey.

One of the main characters in the movie, the protagonist waits for her family in Jakku, becoming a scavenger in the process (and a pretty good one) and later on helping the Driod BB-8 in getting information to the Resistance  – and becoming the target of the First Order.

So this time, I knew I had to make this Rey Jedi Bento, alongside with the cute BB-8 driod.

Quite pleased with the end result of this bento, hubby gave the nod too. :)

Rey Jedi – Japanese rice + ketchup (head/arms), Japanese rice + tororo seaweed (body/clothes), sushi seaweed (eyes, mouth, belt), Japanese rice wrapped with sushi seaweed (hair)

BB-8 droid – Hard boiled egg and hard boil quail egg. The details were made from sushi seaweed and slice cheddar cheese.

Side dishes for this Jedi Bento included yuzu salmon fillet, oyster mushrooms, lettuce and sauteed french beans.

Packed this Jedi Bento in my Noda Horo enamelware bento box.

Gudetama Bento~ perfect for lazy Monday morning.

Snoozed my alarm again this morning.haha… body doesn’t like the start of work week.

Though I actually woke up with an idea for Star Wars Bento but lacked one ingredient so I decided to turn to Gudetama instead.

Inspired by a Gudetama plush toy that I bought at Sanrio Puroland, I made this gudetama onigiri rice ball.

The Japanese rice was coloured yellow using deco furikake. I then shaped the rice using cling wrap.

The side dishes were simple, some sauteed sweet peas with shiitake mushrooms, grilled back bacon and an hard boiled egg – which I decorated as Gudetama character too.

To start the day, I also prepared a hot cup of milk. I find that quite soothing, does warm milk have the same effect on you too?

(cheat!) Using my new Gudetama Deco Latte sheets, even the milk can be made super cute super easily ;P

I hope you will have a good Monday without all the blues!

Today’s round bent wood bento box is from Bento & Co.

Gudetama chopsticks and rest was bought from Sanrio Japan.

Wooden tray is from Muji.

Rilakkuma Xmas Stocking Bento (3)Rilakkuma Xmas Stocking Bento~

I still have so many ideas for Xmas Bento this year, hopefully I can make most of them before Christmas Day.

Today its Rilakkuma’s turn to be in a festive mood. I made Rilakkuma popping out of a Xmas stocking and Korilakkuma as a Reindeer and Kiiroitori too.

Did you know that there are actual plushie toys where Rilakkuma is really popping out of Xmas stocking, and in others coming out of Chimney and even dressed up as a Christmas tree or reindeer. Haha.

Japanese are always the best in being creative and kawaii.

I hope you like this Rilakkuma Xmas Stocking idea! You can also make other characters that you prefer.

To make Rilakkuma, you will need to mix the Japanese rice with some teriyaki sauce or soy sauce. I recommend the former as it is less salty.

Then shape the parts using cling, just like the technique I share in my Kawaii Bento cookbook.

The Xmas stocking is actually made from mince meat patty wrapped with imitation crabstick and decorate with some rice a Xmas bento pick.

Korilakkuma Reindeer is actually a small sausage with cheese and sushi seaweed. I forgot the red nose :P

Kiiroitori is super easy, just a hard boiled quail egg dyed yellow with details added using sushi seaweed and orange egg sheet (you can use carrot instead too).

I also prepared a simple sauteed broccoli dish and added a star shape nugget and some mixed vegetables for festive colours!

Packed this bento in my new cafe theme bento box from LOFT Japan.

Hello Kitty Inari Sushi Bento (1)Hello Kitty Inari Sushi Bento for breakfast today.

Had a late night celebrating my hubby’s birthday yesterday and snooze my alarm for over 30mins. haha. So I needed something really quick and cute to make this morning.

Hello Kitty Inari Sushi to the rescue!

Inari Sushi (inarizushi) is a type of sushi where sushi rice is stuffed into seasoned aburaage tofu pockets. I love the combination of the sweetish taste of the aburaage with the sushi rice.

And nope, I did not draw on these inari tofu pockets, I was really lucky to spot them at Sanrio Puroland in Japan and bought a few packs.

Aren’t they the loveliest?

To make sushi rice, like I have shared in my cookbook, you can make your own vinegar sushi mix with a combination of rice vinegar and sugar or buy those commercially available sushi powder mix or liquid.

The Hello Kitty Kitty Inari Sushi was then packed in my onigiri bamboo basket. The box is so pretty right? It comes with a mat and string that you roll the basket up with and secure the box. I bought mine in Japan but I think Rakuten Global now sells them too.

Inari sushi is great for bento as they last well long and still taste awesome when cool.

I quickly sauteed some sweet peas with shiitake mushrooms and added some Hello Kitty tofu squares and a ribbon cut from carrot.

Plus a cup of hot matcha latte with Hello Kitty Deco Latte sheet to kickstart mid-week.

Brown Cony Bento (1)Brown Cony Bento!

Today is my hubby’s birthday and this breakfast bento was made for the birthday boy.

Do you recognise these characters from LINE? I was surprised that my hubby knew that they were from LINE too (haha – I quizzed him).

As my hubby prefers packed breakfast, I decided to make the all time pleaser – egg mayonnaise sandwiches.

The Brown and Cony sandwiches made from wholemeal and white bread were cut using scissors. I layered the pieces together and spread a generous amount of homemade egg mayo filling and thinly sliced Japanese cucumber between.

The finer details of Brown’s face was cut/assembled using more bread and sushi seaweed.

While that of Cony was using picnic ham, sushi seaweed and pink writing gel.

To fill up the box, I simply added some lettuce and strawberries trimmed to heart shapes.

This Brown Cony bento is not difficult to make. It took me about 30mins in total to put everything together.

Packed this in my white Noda Horo bento box.

Snoopy Christmas Bento (1)Snoopy Christmas Bento!

I have received several requests for Christmas Bento ideas, so here is another one for you. And my second christmas bento this year, after the earlier Olaf Xmas bento, see post here.

This is also a bento to thank all of you for the continual support, without which, I would not even have been able to be part of Influence Asia – the inaugural Asia’s largest social media awards show that took place on 7 Dec 2015.

Still shell shocked that I was one of the top 4 influencers under FOOD category (Singapore) alongside popular and well known influencers such as Daniel Food Diary, Seth Lui and Rubbish Eat Rubbish Grow.

Thank you so much for awarding me the influencer of the year FOOD (Singapore) award. Will post an update on Influence Asia soon.

So I hope all of you will enjoy this Snoopy Christmas Bento creation. Lets take a closer look.

Snoopy and Woodstock were made mainly from Japanese rice. The little Christmas hats were made from red crabstick layer wrapped over some rice.

The side dishes were grilled salmon fillet, blanched broccoli, lettuce and soft boiled egg.

I love how Snoopy is hugging Woodstock, content and happy~ It is after all a joyous month!

Did you also notice the red stocking made from red sausage? A simple way to add more christmas theme to your bento!

Lastly, a cup of hot chocolate at the side. Use my ‘cheat sheet’ – Snoopy Deco Latte sheet.

Totoro Sanrio Deco Toast (3)Totoro and Sanrio Illustration Deco Toast!

Recently while surfing the net on cookpad japan, I came across this illustration deco toast idea and totally loved it. I have never really seen this method used before and thought of giving it a try.

This is my first attempt at such deco toast, so please pardon me for the less than perfect design drawn. haha.

I thought I will share this with you :) since I did have fun making them. Just probably need a lot more practice to make them better and the lines cleaner.Totoro Sanrio Deco Toast (1)

I made some of my favourite characters including Studio Ghibli’s Totoro and Mei, as well as My Melody, Hello Kitty, Keroppi and Gudetama from Sanrio.

Recipe is below with some photos of the steps, hope you like them!

Recipe for Illustration Deco Toast

Basic batter is sufficient to make at least 8 portions of coloured batter.

  • (A)
  • 50g butter
  • 50g sugar
  • 50g beaten egg
  • 72g cake flour
  • (B)
  • *Colours / charcoal powder / cocoa powder *as needed
  1. Prepare the basic batter by mixing in all (A) ingredients in a bowl. Divide them into 6 portions.
  2. Then prepare the coloured batter by adding in icing colours, and charcoal powder, cocoa powder etc.
  3. Transfer the batter into small piping bags
  4. Have your design ready (or you can sketch out like me). Place a sheet of good quality baking paper on top.
  5. First use the darkest tone to complete all the outlines of the design. Then fill in using the respective coloured batter.
  6. Gently flip it onto a slice of bread. Lightly tap/press the design on the bread.
  7. Toast for 3-5mins in a toaster.
  8. Peel off the baking paper – and your illustration deco toast is completed!

For my Totoro and Sanrio Illustration Deco Toasts, I paired them with some homemade blueberry jam and french butter. Oh so yummy!

Cloud Bento using my new Cloud Bento box!

While taking an alternative shopping road off Omotensando, I walk almost 2 train stations distance shopping and landed myself outside this cute store called Rainbow Spectrum flagship store in Shibuya.

They sell cute items, some really awesome while others a little silly but probably make an entertaining gift for festive exchange :P Rainbow Spectrum also have branches in Akihabara, Ikebukuro, Ogaki, Osaka, Sendai LOFT, Musashikosugi, and TAMA PLAZA.

One best part of this store is that the prices are really super reasonable. I spotted a number of items at almost 50% discount as compared to elsewhere.

One thing that caught my eye the quickest were these super cute 3 tiered cloud bento that comes with an expandable rainbow bento strap band.

Everything for the price of 480 Yen only! That is about $5.50 Singapore dollars.

Even the other kitchen stuff were really cute too, such as these plates that resemble disposable paper plates and these little serving dishes at only 90yen!

Check out some of their product below (grabbed the images from their website, click on them to go their their product page)

So today its time to use my brand new Cloud Bento box!

I used only 2 tiers, the largest size and the medium size box.

The question was, what to make in this bento box?

Sometimes there is no need to think too hard, plus I needed something fairly quick and easy.

So I stuck to the theme and made this Cloud Bento, cloud characters made from rice ball.

Are you feeling like the Happy White Cloud or the Sad Gloomy Cloud (Awwww)?

Happy White Cloud made from Japanese rice was shaped using cling wrap and the help of a scraper to mold into cloud shape. While Sad Gloomy Cloud had ground black sesame mixed into it and again was shapped using cling wrap and the help of scraper.

The details were added on using sushi seaweed (eyes, mouth), pink sakura denbu (cheeks) and cheese (teardrop).

Recently the weather here have been behaving this way too, with intermittent showers and sometimes heavy rain.

The side dishes for today’s Cloud Bento included sauteed french beans, buffalo drumlets and star shaped nuggets!

Olaf Xmas Bento!

Wow can’t believe it’s already December! This has been quite a crazy but exciting year, so much so that time seemed to have zipped by.

Even Olaf is surprised that it’s almost time to don the Xmas hat for the festive season.

Hope this Olaf Xmas Bento inspires you to make Christmas bento too.

Olaf Xmas Bento (4)For this Olaf Xmas Bento, I made Olaf mainly from Japanese rice.

See the photo below of the shape of the rice balls.

I tried to hold back on the amount of rice and am glad that I used less than 100g of cooked Japanese rice to make Olaf.

The details for Olaf included crabstick (red layer) to wrap the xmas hat, seaweed for the eyes, eyebrows, buttons, mouth and hands. The front teeth and eye whites were cut from hanpen (Japanese fish cake).

The side dishes for today’s Olaf bento included grilled pork fillets, cherry tomatoes, tamagoyaki, mizuna vegetables, lettuce and Frozen sausages!

Yes!! These sausages I got in Japan have Elsa the Snow Queen and Anna prints on them. So cute.

Hope you like this basic tutorial and bento post.

Have a great Olaf Xmas Month!
