In recent years, due to my busy schedule and travelling, I haven’t had the opportunity to practise yoga as often as before and have also noticed a slight weight gain (T T).

Since I am not really for diet pills (I have tried them years ago – they worked but the weight loss never stays), I wanted to explore alternatives.

There was absolutely no cheating as before each session, my detailed body measurements were taken and I will have a personal consultation with the sensei (chinese doctor).

There after, there will be a Slimming TuiNa session, cupping as well as acupuncture.

I was pleasantly surprised that I lost about 1 kg, and I didn’t even reduce my food intake :P But to get more results, I believe I will have to go for more sessions and also make a greater change in my dietary and fitness regime.

I finally decided to straighten my teeth.

Due to my small jaw, I have had misaligned teeth for as long as I can remember.

In my younger days, my parents were not so aware of the dental treatments and I was also afraid of the pain caused by wearing traditional braces. Not to mention that it was visibly obvious too.

Recently with the changes in technology, and also because of the nature of my work that sometimes requires me to be in front of the camera of media, I thought that it would be good to fix up my teeth.

I visited their Glittz Smile Dental Surgery by FDC which is located at Nehsons Building Branch (Tanjong Pagar area) at Peck Seah Street.

The moment I stepped into the clinic, I was pleasantly surprised that it was atypical of dental clinics.

Most of us have fears of visiting dentist (I know!).

Glittz Smile Dental Surgery by FDC almost feels like you are entering a modern spa, with modern finishing, a spacious sofa reception area and even a play area for those with young children. They even offer drinks while you wait. Talk about good service ;)

After my initial consultation session at Glittz Smile Dental Surgery by FDC, I was so thrilled that there is now the option of MBrace. MBrace is a clear/invisible aligner used in dentistry to straighten teeth (as compared to using braces).

After understanding more about MBrace, it soon became clear to me that it was the perfect choice.

It is visibly clear and does not require any brackets or wires unlike traditional metal braces.

I can also easily remove the aligners when I need to brush or floss my teeth or when eating. Also, there are no fixed brackets or wires that trap food bits, and no ‘attachments’ to limit plaque build-up.

This means less disruptions to my daily routine, food tastings, OOTDs and most would not even know that I am straightening my teeth – okay unless they read this blog ;P

In my first MBrace consultation, a mold of both my upper and lower set of teeth were taken. All I needed was to chew on this gummy thingy. 

A computer simulation was then used for true stepwise teeth movement. This ensures that the custom-made digitally crafted clear orthodontic aligners will be of high precision fit and comfort.

My second visit allowed me to view the simulation on the anticipated improvements to my dental alignment. As a patient, it really made a difference to be able to visualise my teeth’s final position.  I also extracted a tooth to make space to realign my upper set of teeth.

And about two weeks later, I received my set of aligners! I was also taught how to put on and remove them, as well as some of the advice on having their aligners on.

They are really not noticeable right? :)

Timeline, Process 

How often are the MBrace aligners changed? A single set of aligners are used for 2 weeks before moving to the next set of aligners.

Can the MBrace aligners be removed? The aligners can be removed when eating, drinking or brushing of teeth. Aside from that, the aligners should not be removed.

Now what is timeline like? I was advised that I would probably need to have the treatment for one year to correct my teeth.

For every set of aligners, I will wear them for 2 weeks, 20-22 hours each day, before changing to the next set.

Depending on individual’s teeth condition, it usually takes 1 or 1.5 years to complete the treatment.

Okay, as I am writing this post, I am wearing my second set of aligners. I felt that it would be fair and more accurate to write a post only after experiencing it.

Visibility

No one will notice 99% of the time.

I think the most conscious person is actually myself. Even my parents didn’t notice I had my aligners on when I lunched with them!

My first week was the hardest but I soon got used to talking, smiling and kind of ignoring the fact that I actually have the aligners on.

Your speech may be temporarily affected in the first 1-2 days of wearing them – it goes away – don’t worry. Just don’t plan on some major or huge speech when you first start out on the aligners.

Brushing of teeth, eating habits

First – be prepared to brush your teeth a lot more often. In fact, this means everytime you ate (or have snacked). This means making some adjustments to your lifestyle.

The pros are that I literally stopped snacking (yay!) and also stopped drinking sweet drinks, changing my beverages to water.

Also my oral hygience is at its tiptop, since I am taking such good care and brushing my teeth after each meal.

You can still drink coffee and tea and note that they could possibly stain your aligners. I would recommend drinking anything other than water with straw, and if need, rinse after.

Having to brush your teeth after every meal meant that I had to have my toothbrush and toothpaste with me on the go. So you will need a travel pack in your handbag. I also keep another toothbrush/toothpaste set in my office.

You might also find that the constant brushing may dry your lips, so slap on your favourite lipgloss or lipstick :) the good thing is that I look more made up than usual now. haha

Soreness

I will be lying if I told you that you wouldn’t feel a thing. Every change of a new set of aligners comes with soreness and tightness – this is kind of good as this means that the teeth are being aligned, ie moved.

It gets better usually after the first 3 days of every new aligner set.

Good thing, no ulcers and no other pain from wearing these aligners!

So there you go, I can’t wait to show you my results mid way through, probably around 6 months from now, and then 1 year! Stay tuned!

Just in time for the new year, CNY and Valentines’ Day – is some much needed pampering for my very neglected skin.

Since I am better in the kitchen than at taking care of my skin (Ooopss), I usually rely on professional help such as facial treatments.

Having said that, since my schooling years, I have tried various facials before, from those $38 coupons in newspapers to much more pricey treatment by a famous brand staring with ‘C’, but at the end of the day, it either didn’t work much for me , or I felt that it was overpriced for the treatment I got, or I hated the hard sell.

Kimiyo-G Beauty is opening their second outlet!

This time nearer to the city dwellers, with a prime location at The Central Clarke Quay. (Yay! nearer to me now!)

My first visit was to their outlet located at Serangoon (located opposite NEX).

Decked up in a clean modern setting, Kimiyo-G Beauty offers a one stop option for busy folks who can get their nails done, facial, massages and even hair removal at their beauty salon and spa. Using nail products made in Japan and Korea, in-house products also from Japan, and beauty technology imported from Japan, the owner Grace shared with me her high expectations in ensuring the quality of the treatments offered at Kimiyo-G Spa.

She personally heads to Japan to check out the latest beauty technologies and also in formulating her own in-house facial products in Japan.

Both of us clicked immediately, being avid fans of Japan and Japanese products :D

I was very pleased with my nail art (gel nails) and it lasted me past 2 weeks, almost 3! Amazing…

If you have done gel nails before then you would probably know that gel nails last very long and these nail art even could withstand my cooking and house chores. Not bad ;D

For my nail experience at Kimiyo-G Beauty, we went with a design that was sweet and minimalistic, and in my favourite colour white!

And we added some crystal bows (too pretty la)

After making myself prettier and happier with my nails, I tried out their laser hair removal for underarm.

I was actually quite worried about the pain. I recalled some 7-8 years ago when I tried IPL at another salon and the process was quite painful.

They assured me that the session will be painless, and it was true. And it was so fast~ done in like 5-10mins.

The hair removal and laser lights would help to kill the hair follicles  reduce ingrowth and lighten the darkened patches of skin at the underarm areas.

I will probably have to return for a few more sessions to see a more obvious effect.

The best part, aside the nails, was to be presented this set of facial products. (mius the Hello Kitty)

Frankly I am not really someone to get very excited about facial products. Being a low maintenance girl, I need my facial routine to be simple. And more importantly, does not make me feel all sticky and oily in our tropical weather.

For the first time, I fell in love with this range of facial products under Kimiyo-G.

These are all in house specially formulated Made-in-Japan facial products including their Lemongrass cleanser, Hot-spring toner, Morning Dew moisturiser and Rebirth Peeling mask. 

Though sceptical at first, I was convinced the moment I tried it back at home.

Very light, really like using spring water on my face. I also loved the lemongrass scent in the cleanser.

With my new haircut done at ‘le blanc by mashu‘ , I lost count of the  number of times people have commented that I looked Japanese or misunderstood me as Japanese (feel so happy!!). haha. 

I guess the way to go about it is really to find a good hair salon that is able to give one not just a hair cut that suits me but also a good hair treatment and colour.

Mashu in Japan has been around for some 26 years since 1989! And now they have open their overseas outfit named le blanc by mashu here in Singapore, located at the new atrium of Plaza Singapura.

Happy to visit my Japanese hair stylist Yuki san from the salon. Yuki san is one of the directors at le blanc by mashu, so she is really experienced and have over 10 years of experience.

Trusted her recommendation of a less layered cut and ash colour and totally super loved the final results.

This is the before look. very layered and thin, and flat with no volume. I find that my face looks fatter too. :P

After assessing my hair, letting me browse the Japanese hair style magazines, we discussed the cut and colour for the hair.

I can’t explain, but good hairdressers form a connection with their customers. And Yuki and I had that connection.

To give the hair more volume visually, Yuki recommended subtle colour highlights. She also shared that such hair highlights are also very popular in Japan.

Highlights and colours are done! Time to wash out the hair colour dyes and to do a Shiseido Hair treatment to ensure that the hair locks do not get too dry and maintain the softness even after the hair colouring process. 

The end result~~ tadaa.

She blew dry my hair with slightly more curls so that after a while as the hair relaxed (gravity effects), what i have was a super natural curl and nice volume for my hair.

Loving this new look. 

As I am writing this post, I am making my next appointment to see Yuki again for some hair treatment to maintain my locks :)

Dr Benjamin’s 15 years of experience really came through in the cosmetic procedures he performed for me. And I super love how gentle he was!

After my Botox session for between brows and my crow lines, it was time to move on to fillers.

With advice from Dr Ben after my consultation session, I decided with fillers procedures for my nose and under eye areas.

Prior to the procedure, Dr Ben came around to check on me. We went over again what is to be done.

A numbing cream was then applied to the respective areas.

Me, being a scaredy cat, Dr Ben also helped prescribe a pill for me to take 30mins before the procedure to keep me relaxed.

The procedure then began. I didn’t feel much pain, there was a little pressure at times, that’s about it.

Yes, I was wide awake throughout the process and it was surprising okay! Plus the nurses were so comforting and stayed with me throughout as Dr Ben performed the fillers procedures.

And this is me after.

Call me vain, but I do feel better and happier with my looks!

Now that I have done Botox for between brows, crow lines and Fillers for my nose and under eyes…. it is time for selfies!

My nose is now more defined and I definitely looked less tired than before.

I was so happy with my nose and looks that I kept repeating to my husband “I love my nose!” hehe. (He just chuckled)

Frankly I am so happy with it that I am seriously thinking of something more permanent for my nose… :)

Recently I made the decision to do some minor cosmetic enhancements, including botox for between brows, crow lines as well as fillers for my nose and under eye areas.

I am never been against cosmetic enhancements albeit this being my first experience. Hey, if it makes makes one feel more confident and good about themselves, I don’t see why not (or what is the big deal).

This is also the reason why I am openly sharing my personal experience of doing botox and fillers.

In fact I have been so pleased and encouraged with the results that I wished I did this earlier, and am considering something more permanent for my nose :D

But first, let me share what happened for my Botox experience.

There were two things that mattered most to me, one was the credibility of the doctor and the other was the affordability.

After some research, I found Dr Benjamin Yim from Dr Benjamin Yim Clinic Aesthetics & Laser Centre. With some 15 years of experience under his belt, I felt confident I will be in good hands – and I was.

With this clinic located conveniently at Forum, I visited for a first round of examination and consultation with Dr Ben first.

I felt comfortable throughout the process as Dr Ben was very clear and honest in explaining to me the procedures, details, risks and safety etc and was super gentle in administering the procedures both for Botox and Fillers.

The one thing that struck me the most, was how Dr Ben never tried to get me to do more procedures (unlike some doctors I have heard) or attempted to make me feel ugly or horrible.

He was always encouraging subtle enhancements that would worked for me and and to carry out the cosmetic improvements one step at a time.

With Dr Ben’s advice, I decided on having Botox for between brows (I always frown!! my bad habit) and crow lines of the eyes. 

For the next appointment, it was time to do the Botox procedure.

First I had my photo taken, and was ushered into the treatment room to get ready.

Dr Ben came around to check on me and we went through again on the areas to be worked on.

He also marked the areas with a light chalk pencil and showed it to me for a visual idea.

My face was throughly cleansed and a numbing cream was applied to the between brow and crow line areas.

After which the Botox was applied via injections. Don’t worry, I am very afraid of pain too but it was all good and not painful.

And there was literally no downtime at all. You can just do this during lunchtime and head back to work – no problem at all.

See this was me (pic above) right after the procedure still sitting in the treatment room.

Super smooth between brows and no crow lines :) sans make up or filter!

How much? Botox treatment ranges from $500 and above as it depends on the area(s) that you plan to work on.

The best part has yet to come, read part 2 of the fillers for my nose and under eyes. And the final ‘after’ look!

I am super happy, kept telling my husband that too~~ haha.

To get ready for Valentines and Lunar New Year, I went for facial experience at GO60 spa boutique about 1 week back.

Don’t I look much fresher? Loving the baby skin feeling~~

Truth is, I have not been taking care of my skin after my wedding days :P

I am really just the cleanser and that’s it type of girl – I know, I really ought to be taking better of my skin and work harder at my skincare routine.

I was invited by Private Room, a beauty salon well situated at International Plaza (Tanjong Pagar area) to try out their eyelash extension services.

They shared with me that they use eyelash extensions imported all the way from Korea. nice~!!

It was easy getting to Private Room since it is conveniently located just next to Tanjong Pagar mrt station (exit C).

Easy on the eye colors like tiffany blue, light grey and white and with wooden furniture in its set up. There are only 2 beds, so I can imagine that they must get quite booked on peak days/hours!

This is me before (to show you the accuracy and effects of the eyelash extension, there will be an ‘after’ shot later which was taken at the salon as well).

If you have any lashes from previous eyelash extension services, they can also help you remove and clean before starting on the session.

To protect your eyes during the session, there is a eye mask for the under-eye area.

Then strand by strand, each eyelash extension is attached on the eyelash area.

The therapist was gentle and I just had to lie there, relax and kept my eyes closed.

This is after! Check out how lush the lashes were!

I chose the kawaii look – where the center area of the eye has slightly longer eyelash extensions than the ends. This is supposed to make my eyes look bigger (yay!).

There is also the sexy look where the eyelash extensions are longer at the outer ends of the eyes.

So…. how? I definitely love the eyelash extensions and how I felt prettier after!

Naturally I have pretty ok long lashes, but definitely doesn’t beat having extension done.

In fact, I have been rather addicted to getting my eyelash extension services since about 1 year ago (you might remember my earlier post on Eye Studio Tokyo) as it really makes my eyes look bigger and I definitely look more ‘ready’ to go out of the house.

Many who know me personally would know that I am a rather minimalist when it comes to make up. So these eyelash extensions really play a big part for me.

It is also nice how I get constant compliments about my eyelashes. They find it natural and many actually think its my own lashes!

Some of the great things I like about Private Room is that their appointments slots are much better where one can choose after work hours like evenings on weekdays.

Their prices are also very reasonable. Depending on the package you get, the session starts from $60. This is one of the most value-for-money packages for eyelash extensions.

Location..location..location :) I love the central location and the easy access from the mrt station.

I often get many questions about eyelash extensions so I hope this will be helpful :) do leave a comment if you have any!

- Does the eyelash extension feel uncomfortable?

No, in fact I hardly noticed it is there. I have used faux eyelashes before and those felt heavy. These eyelash extensions are comfortable as long as you don’t attempt to rub your eyes.

- Does it cause my own eyelashes to drop?

I have heard of such stories before. But in my own experiences, I have not experience an issue with this. At least it does not feel significant to me.

If you take a look at the earlier photo where I have yet to put on eyelash extensions, you can see that my eyelashes are all in place even after the removal of the eyelash extensions (from my previous session).

- How can I wash my face?

Personally I am very protective of my eyelash extension :P I want them to last as much as possible until the next beauty season. So I wash my face using face sponge. You can get such sponges for about $5 (2pcs) at Watsons store.

I started this the same time I started eyelash extensions about 1 year.

The additional plus point is that my face is actually cleaner and I know this because my breakouts have reduced significantly.
