One of the trend that hit town around mid last year in Japan was Mosiac Bento.

Through geometrical neat arrangements of the ingredients, the result was a highly attractive elegant sushi bento.

I fell in love with the mosaic bento design. So so gorgeous and  not to mention, easy to achieve too. Just prepare a variety of ingredients that you like, colorful will be best, and cut them into squares and arrange them in the box.

For me, I obviously prefer them cute and kawaii. ;P haha so I made quite a no of mosaic bento designs.

The Sanrio one above remains one of my favourites.

When October month was around the corner, I made a Halloween inspired Mosaic Bento.

Knowing that some of you may not really consume rice in your usual diet, I made a sandwich mosaic bento too.

During my trip to Bangkok (Thailand) to teach cooking, I discovered a quaint little tea store that sold really lovely homemade spreads with flavours like matcha, houjicha and even pickled sakura.

They tasted amazing and also had lovely colors. So I used them for this animal theme sandwich mosaic bento.

What was even more amazing was that my Mosaic bento creations caught the eye of the producers of Bento Expo – a special bento programme by NHK World  again.

So they came over to film me and my bento making for the programme – Special Episode.

The filming took place around the December period and the first episode was slated for airing during Christmas period, so I made a Christmas theme mosaic bento. 

I also did a twist on the regular square/rectangular mosaic bento and made another version in a round tingkat bento.

Little Miss Bento has gotten some airtime on NHK World :) Here are some snapshots from the show (See SlideShow above)

The television programme, Bento the Global Lunchbox Project was aired on 14 Sept 2014 at UTC 0:10 | 6:10 | 12:10 |18:10. Singapore time would be 8:10 |14:10 | 20:10 | 02:10 (next day).

They went around the world to feature some of the bento makers and I was selected to be Asia’s representative :)

And here is a closer look at the bento that I made during the show, it was like a 15mins bento to make the characters as we were all rushing for time at the shoot! :P *stressed* wish I had more time but I hope you enjoyed the show and like this bento!

It was also really nice chat with my Japanese bento blogger friend, Maki san online for the show.

Anyone watched Channel 8 latest morning news programme Morning Express’s first episode last Friday (5 Sept) from 9 to 930pm? I was featured!!!

I started receiving sms texts while I was working prompting me to realise that the television feature was airing then! Don’t worry if you missed it, you can watch my segment online that MediaCorp Channel 8 has uploaded. Please visit the television show link here.

They also uploaded a second link on how to make the ladybugs sandwich bento, and a third link for the inari sushi bento.

The show’s write up in Mandarin is below. MediaCorp Channel 8’s Morning Express is a new news programme airing every Friday. In each episode, a special segment will feature interesting skills and hobby. For this first episode that was aired on 5 September 2014, they featured me as the bento advisor to guide the audience on how to make cute character lunch boxes.

I am so happy to share that I have been selected as one of the representative bento makers around the world to be featured in NHK World’s upcoming special programme – BENTO: The Global Lunchbox Project. The show will air on 14 Sept 2014, 0:10/6:10/12:10/18:10 (UTC). Also honored that the featured photos are all my creations, see the 3 bento creations in the image above.

I was really happy when I was approached by MediaCorp Channel 8 to appear on the first episode of 健康在于你6 Here’s to Health 6 (episode 1) that aired yesterday 3 May 2014, Saturday, 10:30pm. 

During the show, I introduced the making of a healthy and easy nature theme bento during the show. Showing all the steps in making the bento, including preparation of the side dishes. 

The producer wanted me to show how it would be easy to pack your own lunches, everything in 30mins!

The tv show host Evelyn Tan was so lovely too, I had so much fun making the bento together with her.
