Oh my, in 2 days time it will be 2014! A brand new year. And in just about 1 month’s time, it will be the Lunar New Year!

So I thought, its time to make a Horse Sushi Art Roll, since both the Chinese and Japanese zodiac for the new year is Horse!

I hope you like this sushi art roll bento creation. Packed in one of my favorite magewappa bento boxes from Bento&co, the Magewappa Classic.

The side dishes for the bento included: roast pumpkin, ketchup prawns, broccoli and lettuce. I also added a pretty sakura mochi.

明後日は2014年になります！新年ですよ。それに、約1ヶ月の時間では、旧正月になります！

馬さんのキャラベンを作りました。そして本日持たせたお弁当は 新年を先取りね！ 

馬さんのかあり巻きすを作るのが楽しかったんです。このキャラベンはＢｅｎｔｏ＆ｃｏｎｏ曲げわっぱ弁当箱を使いました。

馬さんのキャラベンのおかず：ローストカボチャ、ケチャップのエビ、ブロッコリー、レタス、さくら餅。

Christmas Wreath Kitty Sushi Art Roll クリスマスリースの飾り巻き寿司

I had so much sushi rice, hanpen and ebiko left from yesterday’s class that I decided to make myself a sushi art roll bento today. 
*hanpen is a type of japanese fishcake, it is white and smooth, pretty useful for bento-making. 

Still in the festive mood, I made a Christmas wreath sushi art roll today. At the centre I added a small Hello Kitty made from hanpen.The ribbon for the wreath is a little slanted :P Oops hahah, forgot to check that before rolling the sushi.

昨日飾り巻き寿司を教えてから、残り物はたくさんだったんです。酢飯、海老っことはんぺんですよ。

それで、今朝飾り巻き寿司を作りました。今度クリスマスリースの飾り巻き寿司ですよ！キティーちゃんを追加しました。

The side dishes were steamed prawns, lettuce, cucumber, grilled eel, holland peas, small mandarin orange and strawberries. 

For the sushi, these were the ingredients:
- Red Ribbon and deco balls in the sushi roll (sushi rice with ebiko)
- Christmas wreath roll (sushi rice with edamame beans for the outer ring, sushi rice with sakura denbu for the inner circle)
- Stars (usuyaki tamago)

For Hello Kitty, here are the ingredients:
- Hanpen ‘face’
- Seaweed ‘eyes & whiskers’
- Green egg sheet and arare ‘mistletoe’
- Egg sheet ‘nose’

Santa Claus Sushi Art Roll

Made Santa Claus Sushi Art Roll again today. Hope you are not bored :P Are you excited about Christmas? The lights up at Orchard Road is up now in Singapore, I shall see if I can check out this year’s decoration and snap some pictures!

Wanted to practice the Santa Claus Sushi Art Roll as I am teaching 2 classes on this over the weekend.

For this creation, I merely plated the sushi and arranged vegetables, egg sheet and crabstick for the christmas wreath. :) I also added snowflake made from hanpen! I just got my hands on some snowflake cutters yesterday, happy~~

今日サンタさんの飾り巻き寿司を作ったんです。 皆さんはクリスマスにがすきですか？今年オーチャードロードでのクリスマス点灯は見たいです。

週末にこれを教えるので、練習をしました。

今度野菜、薄焼き卵とかに蒲鉾を使って、クリスマスリースを作りました。そして、昨日スノーフレークカッターが買えたので、嬉しかったです。

Last month was a pretty busy month for me. Several private group class request. Here is one post for you!

Valerie and her friends came by and requested for a Hello Kitty X Panda Workshop :) 

It was really fun and everyone’s bento was awesome! woo hoo~~ They also learnt to make tamagoyaki and they all managed to do the rolling of the egg really well! Really happy.

The Little Mermaid Bento リトル·マーメイドのキャラベン

Using the leftover mashed purple sweet potato, I could make the nice costume for my mermaid bento today. This is Ariel from the Walt Disney Animation – The Little Mermaid.

I also made the little yellow fish – Flounder! Flounder was the bright yellow fish, and was Ariel’s best friend :)

This was one of my favorite animation when I was younger. I am sure for some of you too? :”) The title song from The Little Mermaid kept ringing in my head this morning while I was making the bento. :P

Panda Bento パンダのキャラベン

I was super thrilled when I spotted some purple sweet potato last night at an organic store and immediately grabbed some for bento-making! haha! Even though I actually did not have a specific bento idea in mind :P

I was thinking to myself that flower cut outs of the purple sweet potato would be really pretty and sweet. But was wondering what to do with the remaining bits of sweet potato. Then an idea came to me!  I decided to use the remains of the purple sweet potato to make a panda character. 

I hope you like this panda bento! I also create a ‘bamboo forest’ at the side :P

昨夜お店で紫色のサツマイモを発見して、買ったです。お弁当作りのためにうれしかったんです。

紫色のサツマイモのお花を作ると思います。残りのサツマイモを使って、パンダのキャラクターを作ることがしました。竹の森を添えました。笑～

そして、パンダのキャラベンですよ！ 

Panda Bento パンダのキャラベン

This was a simple but fun bento. Similar to using mashed potato in bento making, I steamed the purple sweet potato, mashed it and shape it into the parts for the panda’s eyes, nose, ears, hands and feet. Amazingly, it was so easy to shape! 

As compared to potato, the mashed sweet potato was less wet and its natural fibre enabled easy shaping. It really felt like play-doh. :P

The side dishes were pan-grilled miso pork, tamagoyaki, broccoli, kai-lan vegetables, lettuce. 

To make the ‘bamboo forest’, I cut some leaves shapes using thin egg sheet freehand and placed them on the kai-lan vegetable stems. For the purple sweet potato flowers, I added sesame seeds to highlight its petals. 

For panda character in this bento, as mentioned, the eyes, ears, nose, hands and feet were all made from sweet potato. The mouth was seaweed and the cheeks were pink kamaboko. 

簡単けど、それは楽しいキャラベンね。

紫色のサツマイモを蒸して、パンダの目、鼻、耳、手と足の部分を作りました。とても簡単だったんです！口はのりです。頬はピンクかまぼを使ったんです。

おかずは：焼き味噌豚肉、卵焼き、ブロッコリー、野菜、レタス。

竹林はを作るために、薄焼き卵を使って、葉の形を切るんでした。サツマイモのお花の上に、ゴマですよ。

Kiiroitori Bento and Mini Pancakes キイロイトリのキャラ弁・ミニパンケーキ

Morning! Might be out for lunch today so I packed a breakfast bento instead. 

Kiiroitori Bento! Today’s bento was packed in the Magewappa Maru box by Bento&co.

Kiiroitori is the yellow chick character from the popular Rilakkuma series. I often see illustrations of Rilakkuma & co enjoying pancakes, so today I decided to make a pancake bento. 

See that cute stack of mini pancakes with bear prints? I made those myself!

I place the pancake dough into a piping bag and pipe small circles in a buttered non stick pan to cook. After browning both sides of the mini pancakes, I made the cute bear imprints using the iron press which I had custom-ordered in Japan :)

So in this bento, Kiiroitori is making a whole stack of yummy panckes to eat! :P

Hope you like this simple bento. The sides were super cute mini Rilakkuma sausages, lettuce, broccoli, edamame beans, tamagoyaki, mini mikan.
*tamagoyaki is japanese roll egg omelette
*mikan is mandarin oranges
*edamame beans is japanese green soy beans

おはようございます！昼ご飯を外で食べると思うから、朝食の弁当を作ることがしました。

キイロイトリのキャラ弁ですよ！お弁当箱はＢｅｎｔｏ＆ｃｏの曲げわっぱ・二つ重丸です。

キイロイトリは人気のリラックマシリーズのキャラクターです。可愛いね〜

イラストが見て、リラックマとコリラックマとキイロイトリはパンケーキを好きです。

皆様、ミニパンケーキのスタック見た？自分を作ったんですよ！楽しかったです。熊焼き印を使いました。

おかずはリラックマのソーセージ、レタス、ブロッコリー、枝豆、卵焼き、ミニみかん。

I was selected as one of the invited bloggers to attend the exclusive McDonald’s Kampung Burger party!! A big thank you to McDonald’s Singapore and also to omy.sg.

The event was held on on Thursday at the McDonald’s restaurant outlet located at Ang Mo Kio Town Garden West. It is nice to be surrounded by greenery! It was also so fun to meet and mingle with the other bloggers. Some of the bloggers I met included @Foodesteem @Triciakohh @cennds @jessxw @evilpanda57 amongst the group :)

Have you heard of McDonald’s Kampung Burger? It is now back in Singapore after its first launch almost 20 years ago!! O.O

~~ oh… this would mean that I was only in primary school then (Oops can you guess my age?).

I was so excited to try the Kampung Burger for the first time! 

The Kampung Burger will be in their menu for a total of 5 weeks, starting from 5 December 2013. 

The Kampung burger consists of a tasty crispy chicken burger with a yummy pineapple ring and tangy salsa sauce. The ingredients combination was crafted for a local touch, inspired by sunny Singapore.

How was the taste? 

Thumbs up to the choice of the bread bun. Instead of using the usual burger bun, the breakfast muffin bun was used (like those served at breakfast). The texture of the muffin buns was a great combination with the burger contents. Even with the salsa sauce and pineapple, it did not get soggy at all!

The chicken patty had no greasy aftertaste, which was good. I also like that the burger was not too salty. 

Overall, I think it is pretty good and worth a try. My big thumbs up however goes to…. the Kampung BBQ Drumlets. Keep reading to find out more!

McDonald’s launched a new set of plushie toys featuring the characters from McDonaldland. Way too cute! Check them out below. 

I really want to get my hands on the Officer Big Mac, a rarely seen character in their promotional products. 

Officer Big Mac plush toy will be sold in the last week! So get ready to head to McD early!

There was blogger contest at the event where the winner of the good old days scissors-paper-stone game walked away with the full set of the plush toy. Haha, it wasn’t me.. so looks like I need to go queue at McDonalds to complete the set. Oh well, at least I got the first one – Hamburglar :P

The Kampung Burger Special which consists of the Kampung Burger, Tropical Tango McFizz and large French Fries is available from $7.40. 

The 2-piece and 10-piece BBQ Drumlets are available for $2 and $9.50 respectively. These items are available whilst stocks last.
