_DSC0612In 2 days time, Gudetama Cafe is opening (soft launch) at Suntec City.

You would have read my earlier post about my collaboration with the cafe and the menu highlights.

I helped in the co-creating the menu and food styling for the cute dishes featuring Sanrio’s lovable egg – Gudetama.

You must be excited about how the cafe is like and the menu.

Gudetama cafe is divided into 2 sections, one is decked up in warm wood and many gudetama designs while the other has a garden feel, well suited for Singapore.

Walking into the larger section of the cafe, a cute Gudetama with mint leaf greets you at the door. Holding a mint leaf, Gudetama is shielding himself from heat in sunny Singapore :P_DSC0615

Some of my favourite features include this super super hilarious and cute egg crate table.

SO CUTE LAH! I want to hug all the eggs and bring them home.IMG_6153 IMG_6152

Another favourite spot of mine in the cafe are these egg shaped booth seats and the egg shell chairs with sunny side up table tops.IMG_6154 _DSC0621

If you love natural lighting, then the smaller section of the cafe will cheer you up with its vertical greenery, oh yes there is also a cute gudetama figurine for the best photo opportunities.IMG_6150 IMG_6151

Want to see what they serve and the super cute Gudetama menu?

Gude~tama~tama…. Gude~tama~tama… Gude Gude Gudetama~~~

Made Illustration Deco Toast again. And its Gudetama~~Gudetama design works perfectly with toast right?

I refined my recipe from before and this time it is more yummy, more buttery and I think easier too!

Recipe for Illustration Deco Toast

Basic batter is sufficient to make at least 8 portions of coloured batter.

  • (A)
  • 50g melted unsalted butter
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 50g beaten egg (about 1 medium size egg)
  • 60g sifted cake flour
  • (B)
  • *icing colours (brown, orange, peach, yellow)
  • 0.5 tsp black cocoa powder

Note: recommend to use thicker bread slices for this recipe

  1. Prepare the basic batter by mixing. Add butter in bowl, add in sugar and mix well. Heat in microwave at 500W for about 15seconds (this is to melt the sugar). Mix well again.
  2. Then add in beaten egg, hand whisk to mix well. Followed by the sifted flour.
  3. Whisk to achieve an even batter.
  4. Divide them into portions. (8 tsp for yellow batter, 4 tsp for black batter, 2 tsp for brown/orange batter, 1 tsp for dark peach and 1 tsp for light peach batter, and the rest original batter for white colour)
  5. Then prepare the coloured batters by adding in icing colours, and black cocoa powder (o.5tsp) etc.
  6. Transfer the batter into small piping bags
  7. Pipe the designs on the bread slices. I start with the main colours first and end with the outlines.
  8. Toast for 4-5mins in a toaster, or using oven at 250C for 5mins.
  9. The gudetama illustration deco toast is completed!Gudetama Toast (2)Gudetama Toast (1)

The batter creates a soft cookie like layer on the bread, mildly sweet and delicious. If you like, you can also add other spreads when you eat your toast.

Have a awesome Friday! TGIF~~~Hope you will try making this Gudetama Illustration Deco Toast this weekend.

You can also color the batter as you require for other designs you fancy.

Gudetama Bento~ perfect for lazy Monday morning.

Snoozed my alarm again this morning.haha… body doesn’t like the start of work week.

Though I actually woke up with an idea for Star Wars Bento but lacked one ingredient so I decided to turn to Gudetama instead.

Inspired by a Gudetama plush toy that I bought at Sanrio Puroland, I made this gudetama onigiri rice ball.

The Japanese rice was coloured yellow using deco furikake. I then shaped the rice using cling wrap.

The side dishes were simple, some sauteed sweet peas with shiitake mushrooms, grilled back bacon and an hard boiled egg – which I decorated as Gudetama character too.

To start the day, I also prepared a hot cup of milk. I find that quite soothing, does warm milk have the same effect on you too?

(cheat!) Using my new Gudetama Deco Latte sheets, even the milk can be made super cute super easily ;P

I hope you will have a good Monday without all the blues!

Today’s round bent wood bento box is from Bento & Co.

Gudetama chopsticks and rest was bought from Sanrio Japan.

Wooden tray is from Muji.

Gudetama Tomato Bento (1)I spotted these medium size yellow tomatoes in the supermarket recently and immediately thought of making this Gudetama tomato bento lunch!

Yes! The Gudetama characters were made from tomatoes. Heheh I love how 3-D they look right?

Even my husband comment that this Gudetama bento was pretty cool~~ heheh.

Gudetama Tomato Bento (3)Packed this bento into my Mame Magewappa Bento box from Zairyo SG.

And for a Gudetama theme, I decorated the bento with some egg shells toppers and egg bento pics. Even my chopstick rest is Gudetama, hahahah. Bought the chopstick and chopstick rest from Sanrio JP recently.

Gudetama Tomato Bento (4)To make Gudetama, I halved one piece for the lying down Gudetama. And then using smaller pieces of cut tomatoes, I added Gudetama’s legs and arms.

The eyes and mouth were cut from seaweed.

The bacon blanket is simply a small piece of picnic ham.

Useful tip!: Dab a little mayo to help the seaweed parts stick to the tomato.

Side dishes for today’s Gudetama tomato bento included sauteed french beans with carrots, and stewed pork with pumpkin.

Gudetama Burger Bento (4)Gudetama Burger Bento!

What happens when one wakes up 45 minutes late? Feeling totally like Gudetama, so I decided to make a fast 20mins Gudetama Burger Bento for my hubby.

Also thrilled to finally gotten the chance to use this super cute burger bento box that I bought off an auction site in Japan.

The  burger bento box is so super cute right?

Arghh need to update this post with the bento box closed up. Super cute.

The design of the bento box is really like a hamburger, with the different layers of bread bun, lettuce and meat patty design. And each is a compartment!

The burger bun section was used to pack my Gudetama Burger, the meat patty compartment a fruit salad and the lettuce compartment to store a set of utensils for the bento :)

Very easy to make this Gudetama burger!

I simply fried a sunny side-up and topped it on a bagel bun (sliced half) with lettuce and some teriyaki pork slices.

Fruit salad is super yummy too. Consisting of grapes and navel oranges with some thinly sliced cucumber slices.

I love Gudetama

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Gudetama Bento (4)Gudetama Bento!

Even though its Friday, I feel like Gudetama :P

A crazy week in preparation for my book launch events. All these made all better when my guest post for Sanrio’s blog went live! Read more here.

Really surreal to see my Gudetama foodart creation featured on Sanrio’s blog, and across their social media channels, including Gudetama’s Instagram, Sanrio’s Instagram and even their twitter account.

Feeling extremely blessed and incredibly grateful.

Thank you so much Sanrio!

I love Gudetama so much~this adorable lazy egg really grows on people.

Plus feeling really tired due to the lack to sleep, so decided to make a brand new Gudetama bento!

For this Gudetama Bento, I created two Gudetama made from egg sheet.

Egg sheet is achieved when you cook a very thin layer of egg mixture over low heat.

I have also mentioned this in detail with illustrated steps in my first cookbook – Kawaii Bento as well as in my second cookbook – Kawaii Deco Sushi.

I first sketch and drew out the designs on baking paper as well as on normal paper.

I then cut out the designs on the baking paper, place them on the egg sheets, traced and cut the shapes out.

The normal paper design was then use to cut the seaweed.

Both techniques are also covered in my Kawaii Bento cookbook.

The features (eyes and mouth) of Gudetama was made using seaweed and some mayonnaise.

Cute Porridge Foodart BabyPorridge foodart bento. Fancy some cute porridge and character food?

Then this post would be up your alley!

Those of you who follow me on Instagram would know that I have been down with stomach flu over the long weekend (quite a bummer really).

So I have been eating literally liquids and eventually baby food :P such as porridge and soupy stuff.

To cheer myself up and to make sure that I will still try to eat and get my energy back, I still made some super simple character food with porridge.

This would be great ideas if you are planning on some chara-food for your baby/toddler too.

(Please note the age of your child and diet restrictions. As thicker porridge is served, more suited to older baby and young and young toddlers)

First up, we have one of my favourite characters from Sanrio – Gudetama. This Gudetama Porridge foodart is so hilarious and easy to make.

Plus its really yummy.

The ingredients were:

  • porridge
  • mashed steamed pumpkin
  • seaweed

Method: Arrange the porridge on the plate/dish to mimic the egg white. Then scoop and shape the mashed pumpkin for Gudetama’s body. Using scissors and seaweed punch, cut the eyes and mouth of Gudetama. Assemble the details.

Next up, this would be great for slightly more watery porridge.

All you need is a cute shape bento box, like this Hello Kitty Bento Box that I used.

Hello Kitty ingredients

  • mashed purple sweet potato
  • kombu seaweed
  • corn kernel
  • porridge

Method: Simply filled the box with porridge and add in the designs. Here I shaped the mashed purple sweet potato into the parts for the ribbon. The eyes and whiskers were cut from kombu seaweed which was soaked and boiled for about 10 seconds. And one corn kernel for Hello Kitty’s nose.

I didn’t share this Kiiroitori on my Instagram as I felt there were way too many porridge foodart.

But thought since I am drafting up this dedicated blog post on cute porridge foodart, then why not include this too.

Ingredients for Kiiroitori Porridge Foodart

  • porridge
  • carrots
  • peas
  • mashed steamed pumpkin
  • seaweed

Method: Scoop the mashed steamed pumpkin on the plate/dish. Shape it into an oval for Kiiroitori. Then add in the details using cut up boiled carrot slice and seaweed. Scoop some porridge on both sides and decorated with some carrots and peas.

This is probably (hopefully) my final porridge meal before I attempt solid food recovering from my stomach flu.

So today I started to introduced fish into the porridge and made this My Melody Porridge Foodart.

Ingredients for My Melody Porridge Foodart

  • Porridge
  • salmon flakes
  • egg sheet
  • seaweed
  • flower namafu *not suited for babies as it might cause choking.

Method: Mix some porridge with the salmon flakes to colour it pink. keep it in the rice cooker so it stays hot while you prepare the other parts. Cut the eyes and nose from seaweed and egg sheet. Boil and pat dry the flower namafu. Scoop and arrange the pink porridge on your plate/dish. Scoop another portion of white porridge for My Melody’s face. Then assemble the parts.

Gudetama, the lazy egg character from Sanrio is really starting to grow on me very much. He is really hilarious with his desire for inactivity :P

I hope you like this Gudetama Foodart!

Gudetama’s name, which is a combination of “gude“ describing something or someone with no energy or strength, and “tama” from the word tamago, which means egg in Japanese.

Gudetama even has his own Twitter account with over 380K followers!!! He also has some videos on Sanrio official Youtube channel, which are quite funny.

Gudetama was made from greek yogurt and half a slice of canned peach. His features are added on using some chocolate fudge and just a teeny little bit of yogurt.

It is that simple!

I also added some museli for my ypgurt Gudetama Foodart breakfast.

You can change it to granola if you prefer more crunch, I didn’t have time to buy granola. haha

To bring out the colour of Gudetama, I chose to plate it on my black La Chamba ceramic cookware which I bought at New Zealand during a vacation trip.

Made using traditional methods, the La Chamba cookware is still moulded by hand and baked in the sun before being fired at approx 600C. Woo! how cool is that.

Another anthropomorphized character from Sanrio. Everyone, please meet, Gudetama, translated as lazy egg. Yes its an egg that does not want to do anything~

Its name, which is a combination of “gude“ describing something or someone with no energy or strength, and “tama” from the word tamago, which means egg in Japanese.

Interestingly Gudetama even has his own Twitter account with over 380K followers!!! He also has some videos on Sanrio official Youtube channel, which are quite funny.

Gudetama sushi (2)

I have also made a Gudetama bento earlier on. Read bento post here.

Homemade tamagoyaki (Japanese egg roll omelette) cut into 4 servings for the sushi.

The little details for Gudetama were seaweed for his eyes and mouth.

The feet/arms were made from egg too. I simply slice a thin layer of the tamagoyaki and cut out small thin ovals.gudetama sushi

I remember seeing quite an increase in gudetama character goods when I was in Japan end of last year~ Here is a photo I took in Kiddy Land, Harajuku. He also now has his own shelve at Sanrio Puroland’s shop too!

To make today’s Gudetama bento (so easy), I just fried an egg, and make sure that the yolk is still runny and not overcooked.

Arrange on a bed of rice and add on the features using seaweed which I cut.

The bacon was grilled in the pan and a small piece was added for Gudetama’s blanket.

The side dishes included (more) bacon, blanched broccoli, spinach with sesame sauce, cherry tomatoes and lettuce.

Packed this Gudetama bento  in my white rectangular bento box from Noda Horo. I bought the box from Japan but this bento box is now available in Singapore, spotted it at Tokyu Hands :)

Have a lazy Monday morning~~ but a good day ahead!

Here are some funny Gudetama pictures (not mine, please see source link)
