Skinny Salads Food Review

People working in the Tanjong Pagar area can rejoice with the opening of the first-ever Skinny Salads. More options for lunch and dinner! yay!

Opened by the same folks behind Skinny Pizza, comes Skinny Salads where they dish up fresh and satisfying salads, tasty grilled wraps and vitamin packed juices for the busy urbanite on-the-go.

For their debut, Celebrity Chef Philip Davenport of Toque 12 TV show fame has put together 8 perfect salad combinations and seven toasty wraps.

And keeping things fresh and interesting, Skinny Salads’ menu will be updated regularly as well.

Some of my favourites included their Coconut & Turmeric Chicken wrap $8.50 of cucumber, bean sprouts, tofu, baby cos

lettuce and that creamy yummy coconut & tumeric chicken wrapped smugly in soft flour tortilla.

If you prefer hot toasty meal, then I would recommend trying one of their wraps.

For salad selection, one of my personal favourites is the Cabbage & Nouc Cham $9 (added pork – top up $3) that includes a salad mix of red cabbage, white cabbage, carrot, coriander, bean sprouts, Vietnamese mint, nouc cham dressing, crispy shallots and pork.

You can also choose to add other meats instead of pork, including confit salmon or more of that yummy coconut chicken for $3 top up.

Another great salad was their Fermented Cabbage & Yuzu $11.50 (added Salmon – top up $3).

Extensive ingredients including shaved carrot, shaved cucumber, pickled spring onion, tofu, snow peas, enoki mushrooms, radish, fermented cabbage, mung bean sprouts, Asian salad, spicy yuzu dressing, spicy seaweed.

Instead of adding confit salmon, you can choose seared tuna for $3.

Crisp leaves with fresh refreshing choice of ingredients makes this Asian inspired salad tick. The yuzu dressing also adds that vibrant zing to the dish. Yums.

I also enjoyed their Organic Chicken & Spinach $12.50.

Yummy roast chicken meat served with fresh corn, spinach, red radish, sunflower seeds, parsley, chickpeas, cumin-yoghurt dressing.

I always love corn in my salad :) This salad is both light and satisfying, which is important since I like to have my salads as a main course.

Superfood lovers will definitely love their Kale & Quinoa $11.50. Kale, green beans, zucchini, sprouted lentils, spinach, watercress, cherry tomatoes, beetroot, quinoa, tarragon, parsley verde.

Need some meat? Add either roast chicken, lamb or salmon for a top up of $3.

Then, squash your cravings for dessert by ending the meal with Skinny Salads’s refreshing plantation of freshly juiced fruits and vegetables.

Their most popular juice is The Great Detox $5 (Orange, carrot, ginger), but I personally preer their Watermelon Rush $5 (watermelon, pineapple).

I would imagine The Great C $5 (orange, grapefruit) will be citrus-y awesome too, shall try that the next round.

Another breakfast creation~ I have a work event this afternoon so decided to make myself a fun Totoro Soba Noodles foodart.

Soba, or buckwheat noodles are popular with the Japanese. It is healthy and can be served chilled or warm.

This kawaii Totoro Soba creation is a fun way to enjoy breakfast wouldn’t you agree?

Totoro!!! I love Totoro~~ I am sure many of us who have watched the anime loved this big fat fluffy mythical creature.

After my trip to Uji, Kyoto and the beautiful meals at the tea houses, I have been wanting to eat some cha-soba (green tea flavoured buckwheat noodles).

So I bought and cooked both cha-soba and the normal soba noodles.

The cha-soba noodles were used to create the ears and body of Totoro, while the soba noodles were used to create the tummy.

To make the curves on Totoro’s tummy and its whiskers, I used kombu seaweed.

The eyes and nose were made from cheese, seaweed and kombu seaweed.

I also created two Soot Spirits from cheese and seaweed. The other ingredients plated included spring onions, mizuna and blanched sweet pea.

This Totoro Soba is served with soba tsuyu (dipping sauce) and more spring onions at the side.

I remembered first seeing Totoro soba creations at Cookpad recipe site as well as Annathered.com. However, mine is slightly different from theirs in the ingredients choices, plating and design.

I always prefer to create my own foodart designs.

Serving my noodles chilled on the plate, this is called Mori-Soba. Zaru-Soba on the other hand, is chilled soba noodles topped with shredded seaweed.

One more day to Friday~~ woo hoo~~

IMG_6395Squash The Juice Place is a newly opened salad and juice bar located at Central Clarke Quay.

Founded by a young local entrepreneur, Mr Allan Foo, Sqush aims at providing city dwellers with healthy options, Squash offers cold pressed juices at more afforable prices and a variety of salads and wraps. The brand was actually inspired by Allan’s own experience in nursing his body back to health via the benefits of juices.

They even have a healthy Lou Hei option~

Check out this healthy lou hei which was surprising yummy with the crunch of the fresh vegetables, beans, berries, nuts, salmon and berry sauce. Who says all Lou Hei is unhealthy? :)

My top salad favourite from their store has to be their Ultimate Rojak Salad. Super duper addictive. We had to go for seconds cause one bowl was simply not enough for sharing~

Unlike the usual unheathy rojak, the Ultimate Rojak is a medley of fresh salad vegetables, nuts and tau pok and dried cuttlefish drizzled with in-house prawn paste. The caramelised pineapple cubes in this salad also gave that lovely tangy kick to this salad dish.

Loving this Asian style salad, if salads all taste so good, I will be happy to have salads all the time!

Another salad we enjoyed that evening was their spicy thai prawn salads. Just look at the generous serving of prawns~~~ yummy! Love the sweet sour dressing too for the salad.

Prefer to customise your own salads? Their Salad Bar has over 30 fresh ingredients for your to build and experiment with your salad. There are even unique items such as chicken bulgogi (for the K-fans), beef kimchi and mushroom egg fritata. If you fancy a wrap over a salad, just let them know and Squash will wrap up your salad with their whole wheat wraps.

Cold-pressed juices are a hot favourite in the fitness and health scene lately.

Cold-pressed Juices uses a method to juice your fruits/vegetables that retains most of its nutrients and pulp, unlike the usual juice processors that removes the pulp and causes loss of nutrients.

If you are in need of detox, better health oPersonally I really liked their AntiOxidant (later found out that this is also their best seller!) that contains apple, pear, pomegranate and mix berries.r weight loss, you can also consult Squash for their cold-pressed juice programme.

Triple Colour Smoothie Recipe

A wholesome, yummy and pretty creation – my Triple Color Smoothie using Bosch MaxxiMum Kitchen Machine MUMXL40G.

As some of you might know, I received this powerful machine from Bosch Singapore and had shared a Tofu Chiffon Cake recipe earlier on.

This powerful machine has more than 120 functions, thanks to the wide variety of accessories that includes a 5.4litres stainless steel bowl, silicon stirring whisk, beating whisk, kneading hook, ThermoSafe glass blender, continuous shredder with 4 discs, etc.

With the haze situation, many people (including myself) are falling ill. I wanted to have a simple recipe that will provide lots of vitamins and antioxidants.

This recipe is so easy and fail-proof that anyone can try it as long as you have a good blender and the ingredients.

For Bosch MaxxiMum Kitchen Machine MUMXL40G, simply remove the stirring whisk and steel bowl. Adjust the mixer top facing down. Remove the cap and insert the ThermoSafe glass blender. Ensure that the arrows match during the insertion before twisting anti-clockwise to secure the blender in place.
