IMG_6656I made numerous Tsum Tsum bento / foodart / sushi  etc, that I have already lost count. Many of them have been posted on my Instagram, at least for the last 3 months or so after my leg injury.

Here is a brand new post on Mermaid Tsum Tsum Bento!

I wanted a breakaway from the usual Tsum Tsum characters like Mickey, Minnie, Pooh… you get the drift. And decided to make the Little Mermaid Tsum Tsum characters.

Partly I was inspired by the cute glass bottle decoration that I got at 3 coins in Japan, it has sand and cute little seashells. Also also because the weather has been crazy warm these days and I really would want a dip in the pool.

There are many characters of the Little Mermaid Tsum Tsum series, but since I am only making one lunchbox, I decided on Ariel the mermaid, Sebastian and Flounder.

Hopefully next time I will make Ursula too. haha. IMG_6660

I always try my best to use natural ingredients to colour and complete the characters in creating my cute bento lunches. With the exception of Flounder’s fine details, most of everything else is made with natural food ingredients).

  • Ariel (face=rice + ground roast sesame, hair = beetroot udon noodles, eyes/nose=sushi seaweed, star = egg sheet)
  • Sebastian (face=rice + ebikko, pincers= tomato, eyes/mouth= sushi seaweed)
  • Flounder (face=rice + egg yolk, fins=egg white with blue food pen, eyes mouth= sushi seaweed)

I think the most tricky part of this Little Mermaid Tsum Tsum bento wrapping the noodles around the rice ball to form Ariel’s hair. haha.

The side dishes included mizuna salad, lettuce, boiled egg and otah (spicy mackerel fishcake).

Have a great Monday hope this cute Little Mermaid Tsum Tsum bento cheers you up!

Mermaid Bento (1)Under the sea~~ under the sea~~

I made Mermaid Bento today!

Today’s bento was inspired by the romantic dinner last night at Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora at Resorts World Sentosa.

To celebrate my hubby’s birthday, I thought the restaurant setting was quite unique and romantic. Plus both of us especially my hubby enjoy going to aquariums when we travel.

In fact I think I had more fun looking at the fishes than I anticipated. I will blog about the restaurant food in a separate blog post but  here is a sneak ohoto preview~

A photo of me and my hubby at our dining table which look out to the ‘window’ view of the aquarium.

There were so many fishes, including stingray, batfish, tuna, sharks and a whole lot of other fishes that I cannot name :P

I felt like a mermaid!! haha with all of fishes swimming around while I was enjoying the dinner~~

To match the theme of the mermaid bento, the side dishes would have to include seafood! So I packed some grilled Japanese eel together with sauteed vegetables, cherry tomato and lettuce.

So I had to make this Mermaid Bento plus lots of little fishes in the bento.

Does the mermaid looked familiar? Yes, check out the section on my bento technique in my Kawaii Bento book, I tweaked the design of the mermaid slightly for this bento.

This mermaid wears a bikini instead of a full length mermaid tail and I made this mermaid ‘hold’ and guide a whole school of little fishes.

The little fishes are all edible, they are actually furikake (Japanese rice toppings). The furikake comes with little cute fish designs which I picked out and added in the bento.

Today’s mermaid bento was packed in my Magewappa Maru bento box from Bento & co.

The lovely grey strip lunch mat is from Afternoon Tea Japan.

Have a great start to the week!
