Kawaii Burger Bread Buns.

I love baking these super cute burger bread buns – Miffy, Winnie the Pooh and Pikachu! Which ones do you like the most?

Really happy that they turn out well.

I have been making cute bread buns, but I think the Winnie the Pooh one was the first few.

Using honey instead of sugar in the recipe, it yield a lovely lingering aroma of honey in the soft buns. Sweetness is not overpowering so the buns are still great for mini sliders like here.

For a healthy choice, I had apple ‘fries’ at the side together with some salad.

Over the last two years, my baking journey has intensified. I guess the plain reason is because I enjoy creating (eating :P) and sharing the goodies with my friends and colleagues when I bake. Plus I have a much better oven now.

I used to bake with the old tabletop oven – a hand me down from my mum.

Finally upgraded to a full size oven early last year  –  a 60cm Turbo Incanto Oven TFM8627.

Nothing against the tabletop oven, but it does make a difference in terms of heat distribution, functions and space (more space!!!), areas where a full size oven is advantageous.

Most of my baking creations are breads and pastries like tarts, choux and cakes. I noticed that I rarely make macarons, icing cookies, glazed donuts and cupcakes though, haha – I think its because I prefer eating the former ones more.

It only makes sense to make what you enjoy more right? :)

I think this is the one thing that comes through in homemade food – the love and effort we give in.

At the peak of the Pokemon phase last year, I was inspired to make pokemon buns.

They came out equally cute. I love that I can take out my Pokeball bento box and use them too. The mini pokeballs are made from quail eggs,  cherry tomatoes and seaweed.

Even without the bun fillings, they still look adorbs right?

And of course, Miffy cannot be left out!

I am such a bunny person.

The trick to getting these buns such nice color and not overbrowning, really comes down to the baking temperature. More of these tips will be shared in my next cookbook – yes a teaser! it will be on bread and will be super kawaii.

Using my Miffy vegetable cutters, I made matching potato wedges to complete my Miffy Burger Buns set.

Kawaii Miffy Sushi!

More cute sushi for you. This time the character is Miffy, made using quail eggs.

I love using these quail eggs for bento and foodart as they are so versatile and awesome for making cute food. Aside from bunny quail eggs, you can also make them into teddy bears (see my earlier post) and kitty cats (see my earlier post).

Sorry for being a little behind in updating my blog as recently things have been really busy. But I am feeling quite recharged now after my 2 weeks trip back to Japan.

Japan during Autumn is amazing. I love the food, the weather and of course all the kawaii food and things.

Many have asked me to make more of my cute sushi, so this time I decided on Miffy sushi.

Partly because I was a little lazy to colour the eggs and wanted a ‘white’ colour character.

I made my own sushi rice, ebi prawns and shape the sushi and small maki roll.

The Miffy sushi characters were made from hard boiled quail eggs, the ears from hanpen (a type of Japanese fishcake) and the features using sushi seaweed.

Sushi board is from Bento & Co. It comes in a set of wood board, soy dish and chopsticks (non-miffy). I got 4 sets and they are perfect for hosting or family usage.

Miffy Sushi for you? A 30mins creation to wrap up the week.

It has been a crazy work week for me and late nights. So really glad that the weekend is finally approaching, having said that, am still working over the weekend.

Gambatte ne~~

This year has been a crazy year. both for my bento stuff and work, I guess it is sort of a good problem? But am feeling rather burnt out.

Need to take stock and recharge soon.

Only reached home past eleven last night so with a lack of sleep, I figured that I could only muster enough energy to make something really simple.

Somehow the idea of making these Miffy Sushi ‘rice-cream’ pops came into my mind.

I love Miffy as the character is not complicated. No weird colours or very small details required. You basically just need Japanese rice and seaweed.

You can make Miffy with either Japanese rice, or sushi rice depending on your personal preference.

To add the pink cheeks, I dab on some pink gel colours. Its as simple as that. 

Paired my Miffy Sushi with some buffalo drumlets, side salad of mizuna vegetables and some colorful sausages.

I mentioned about these sausages in my earlier post. Yes, they are indeed green and orange in colour. They also come in yellow. Super cute right?

The sushi wooden board is from Bento&co.

Miffy Raincoat Bento!

After a terribly hot and warm summer of late, we enjoyed a fairly cooling weekend with rain showers. How nice~

The showers brought much needed respite from the days of hot weather.

I hope the cooling weather can stay a little longer! Even Miffy feels the same way ;)

Miffy dons a yellow raincoat and carries her brolley for the rainy weather.

What a fun Miffy bento to make!

You might also noticed the super cute cloud trays in the styling shots.

Totally in love with these super cute cloud trays from @things-to_make_and_do, a store/cafe from Bangkok Thailand.

I was really lucky as they had a pop up store with Public Garden on Saturday at Suntec Convention Hall and I was able to grab some of their lovely tableware.

Plus I have wanted to go to Public Garden‘s event for the longest time. So glad I made it this round.

Of course, I could not resist and bought a whole lot of other things too from the various stores featuring handmade goods, tableware, acessories, quirky designs, clothes etc.

I am already looking forward to the next Public Garden event.

The cloud trays had also inspired me to make this Miffy Raincoat Bento.

For those of you who bought my Kawaii Bento cookbook, there is a bento recipe in the book under Weathers, where I also featured a rainy day bento.

The raincoat is very similar, except that this round the character is Miffy.

To make the raincoat, you can refer to the illustrated recipe for making egg sheet in my book too.

Miffy is really easy. Just shape some Japanese rice and add on the seaweed details for the face.

The side dish for today’s Miffy Raincoat Bento is a simple sauteed broccolin with prawns and carrots.

Do you like this Miffy Deco Sushi bento?

A simple lunch today.

Attended the Singapore Fashion Week last night and had a rather late night, and so (as expected) woke up  later than usual. haha.

So I had to plan something pretty easy that did not require much time to prepare. Simple but still cute!

This Miffy Deco Sushi must be one of the easiest I have made. 

I do however wished I made the ears smaller, probably should cut down to around 20g of rice only (each) the next time. I used about 33g this time.

The eyes and Miffy’s signature mouth was added using some seaweed. It is that easy!

The pink colour rice was made by mixing sushi rice with pink oboro and pink sakura denbu. 

The bento side dishes included minced meat soboro, carrots, broccoli, sweet peas, edamame beans, tamagoyaki, cherry tomato and MiffyKamaboko – so cute right?!

I bought the Miffy Kamaboko in Taiwan while on vacation. Another reason why its so important to bring some ice pack and thermal bag so I can do some grocery shopping.

Packed this Miffy Deco Sushi into my Mame (bean shape) Magewappa bento box from Zairyo SG.

Miffy Easter Bento!

It will be Easter in about a week’s time! So it is definitely time to start making and sharing Easter Bento.

Easter always makes me think of Easter bunnies, Eggs and Chicks~ So for this Miffy Easter Bento, I made Miffy with a mini Easter egg made from quail egg.

This week our country received some sad news of the passing of our founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew. So I decided to keep my foodart themes more muted and did not post any cute bento or foodart until today.

Even so, I did not choose a character that was way too ‘happy’ ~ Miffy sort of have that sad/grumpy look. Sad news aside, I hope this Miffy Easter Bento will send a little cheer on your way to brighten up the week.

Miffy character was made from shaping rice ball with the features cut from seaweed. The yellow dress that Miffy is wearing is made of rice ball wrapped with thin egg sheet.

The quail egg was boiled, coloured and made into the easter egg. I shared tutorial on this a year ago you can refer to the recipe post here.

The side dishes included sauteed french beans with shiitake mushrooms, baked salmon fillet and pumpkin as well as some lettuce.

I also packed a small Japanese fruit and vegetable juice with my  Easter bento lunch.

Spotted these at Isetan Supermarket yesterday, and was immediately drawn to the pretty packaging (haha). Plus the flavours looked really interesting and yummy.

I chose to try the Dekopon & Carrot Mix today, to match the bunny theme.

The juice was really refreshing with citrus notes, loved the taste. At $2.30, I might buy them again~

Oooohhh raining!! Remember to bring a brolley along when you are out!

Those who live in Singapore who know that the rainfall over the last two days was a big joy to many even if it means some inconvenience. I was absolutely thrilled! The rain that came finally ended a dry spell that started last month.  

Since I will be having salad with my colleagues for lunch, I decided to make myself this Miffy Sandwich Bento for breakfast. 

２日前から、雨が降ったので、1月中旬から続いた日照りに3月16日、ようやく終止符が打たれた。本当に良かったですね。

それから、今日はミッフィーのキャラベンを作りました。雨に用意して、ミッフィーちゃんは傘を持っていますね。けけけ～

Miffy is bringing along her pink umbrella for the rainy weather :) Beneath Miffy is a sandwich. I toasted the bread slightly in the over and packed cucumber, ham, milk spread, strawberry jam. I know this combination sounds weird, but it was so super yummy. Well… you do eat swedish meatballs with jam. So the ham with jam was pretty awesome! :P

The sandwich was accompanied by some baked pumpkin, strawberries, lettuce and apple :) Did a star pattern apple carving today. I have done a simple apple carving for bento tutorial earlier, read more here. 

友達と昼ごはんを一緒に食べますから、朝弁を作りました。サンドイッチは美味しかったんですね。嬉しかった～～サンドの中はハムとキュウリとイチゴジャムです。おかずはイチゴ、レタス、カボチャ、りんごです。りんご飾り切りのレシピはもう投稿しました。ここで見てみてください。

Hello :) I made this Miffy Bento last week but forgot to post it up until today. :P heheh

The ingredients to create Miffy is not difficult, consisting of thin egg omelette, seaweed and hanpen (kind of japanese fish cake). 

The side dishes is salad and teryaki chicken.
