I made Sentimental Circus Bento yesterday for lunch. Sentimental Circus is one of my favourite Japanese character series as my chow chow (the plushie that I bring around with me all the time) is Shappo, who is the main character of the series, and also depicted in this bento.
Sentimental Circus comprises of different characters of a circus troupe, with Shappo as the Master (leader) of the group. Shappo is holding Toto, which is a little dog that Shappo made and it came alive, forming part of the circus.
It has been sometime since I made Sentimental Circus Bento, plus I received the sweetest gift from a friend who hand made some Sentimental Circus charms and also got me the 2015 schedule book.
Since I had one last potato left in my pantry, I decided to use it for my bento today!
I am really pleased with the end result of the Shappo and Toto in my bento – I think the bento really resembles the characters of Sentimental Circus.
I packed my bento in my aluminum hello kitty lunch box as well as some homecooked soup in the Tiger Soup Cup from Bento&co. As I wanted a light meal, I sauteed some french beans to go along with my rice and soup.
I also added some lettuce, and decorated the bento with some musical notes bento picks skewered with edamame beans as well as a ribbon pasta.

Hmm… mine stays together well even after I bring the lunchbox out.
After moulding them into the different parts, I tend to gently press them together (e.g. the adjoining parts of the arms and body could overlap slightly).
If the joining parts keep coming apart, you can also use just a little mashed potato to ‘join’ them together, a little like spreading them across to overlap on areas that cannot be seen from the front/view of the character.
My mashed potatoes has no butter added to it as well and I use either Russet potatoes or Japanese potatoes.
Let me know if the above helps. :)
