Santa Claus Sushi Art Roll Bento!
It has been a while since I made Sushi Art Roll. Recently several of my sushi art rolls were featured on Bored Panda’s article: 22+ Cute And Creative Pieces of Sushi Art. Thank you! :) Happy that sushi art is gaining popularity these days~
Sushi Art Roll (aka Kazarimaki-sushi in Japanese) is something that I picked up 2 years ago and received training at Tokyo Sushi Academy in Japan. I was certified under the Japan Sushi Instructor Association since October last year.
This is my first Christmas theme bento for the year. Starting with this Santa Claus Sushi Art Roll bento.
Never seen this before? Cause this is my original design, not following any recipes or online designs. I created this on my own.
It is nice to move away from standard book recipes and come up with my original sushi art roll designs these days. It does take more skill (and luck :P) as I have to estimate the amounts and portions as I create the sushi. I usually sketch out the design, that helps me estimate the shape and amount of rice to use for the different parts.
Showing you the sushi roll pieces after I cut them and added the details on the cutting board.
Here is what I used:
- Santa’s face (sushi rice with teriyaki sauce)
- Santa’s beard (sushi rice)
- Santa’s clothes/body (sushi rice with ebikko)
- Santa’s hat (sushi rice, sushi rice with ebikko)
- Santa’s moustache (slice cheese)
- Santa’s nose (orange egg sheet)
- Santa’s eyes (seaweed)
- Santa’s belt (seaweed, egg sheet)
Packed the Santa Claus Sushi Art Rolls with tamagoyaki (Japanese egg omelette), baked salmon fillet with teriyaki sauce, lettuce and some blackberries.
Did you notice the cute snowman print on the egg? Hehe used the new branding iron I got from Japan!
Thank goodness its Friday! Have a great weekend everyone.
I am looking forward to meet you at my Kawaii Bento book launch tomorrow at Kinokuniya Singapore Main Store. Details are here.
