Butterflies Bento today~~it has been a while since I made either butterfly theme or seaweed cutting bento.
If I was to describe this Butterflies Bento, one word – purple!
Interestingly, that sort of how my bento design came about.
I bought some purple sweet potato and wanted to use them for my bento.
Making them into purple flowers seemed like a great idea and because of that, the idea of making a purple design and butterflies characters in this bento came to my mind.
The outlines of the butterflies is cut from seaweed. The technique used in cutting the seaweed as per what I shared in my Kawaii Bento cookbook.
The colours are possible because of the use of oblate sheet, an edible sheet that enables me to paint some icing colours.
I have made many other seaweed cutting bentos and have also shared tutorials before. Here is one for you which I have blogged about – the Totoro Seaweed Cutting bento, in which I demonstrated seaweed cutting and the use of oblate sheet.
The side dishes were sauteed french beans with abalone mushrooms, grilled salmon tofu patties, lettuce, purple sweet potato and a small fried nama-fu (wheat gluten) -which looks like a pretty tiny fireworks right? :)
Packed this bento in my lacquered hand crafted magewappa bento box by master craftsman Yoshinobu Shibata and his son Masahisa Shibata. I got this bento box from their Asakusa Magewappa Store in Tokyo.
I hope you like my butterflies bento!

天啊!栩栩如生的一群蝴蝶,太美丽了!
孤若寡闻的我还以为nama-fu 是点缀品,哈哈。
