Totoro remains one of my favourite bento characters and today I made a Flying Totoro Bento.
Seaweed cutting bento do take some time as I have to select the design and slowly cut the seaweed using a precise cutting knife, akin to paper cutting. The knife I used is Acto knife, which you can find at most larger stationery stores.
Hopefully you will not be bored by my repetition in explaining the bento, but the colors are possible because I used oblate sheet – which is a transparent tasteless really thin edible sheet which I bought via Amazon Japan.
The oblate sheet allows me to adhere the seaweed cutting and afterwhich for me to paint on the colors using some diluted icing colors.
If you are keen to make a seaweed bento, you can refer to my earlier tutorial here. In the tutorial post, I also mentioned where to purchase the oblate sheets.
As I bought some fresh Asari clams from Meidi-Ya a day before, I wanted to cook it while its still fresh. Made Japanese curry with the clams and mushrooms as I was rushing for time and Japanese curry was a quick dish I could whip up.
I also sauteed a french beans with baby corns and carrots side dish for the bento.
Today’s Flying Totoro Bento was packed in my white monbento box from Bento&co. And the curry was packed in a smaller aluminum container with leak free silicon lid.
